This young L.A. pop-rock band is selling out good-sized rooms everywhere they go.

How? Why? Do they have a big song in an ad or on a soundtrack or something?

I dont know when they appeared on my bar's playlist (I don't remember putting them there but two of their songs have been there for more than a year) but they're ok. Sort of sounds like Cut Copy, it's the sort of sound some kids like to cut rugs to these days so it shouldn't be surprising if they're famous.

They're not the kind of band that the regular posters in here seem to care about. I don't think you'll get much discussion about them over here unless they release some big single in the following years.

Right.

This level of famous - selling out 600-1200-capacity clubs well in advance despite no hit singles or prominent syncs because young people like them and young people are super-connected these days (or however you'd describe this) -- is fascinating to me.

Maybe it has always existed and I missed it, but I watch who's advance-selling out the clubs in my town and I just think things have changed in the past few years. The acts that do it now are *not* the same kinds of acts that would've done it 5-10 years ago.

I talked about them briefly on the 1975 thread (they opened for them on part of the tour). I think they hit a similar vein as the 1975 that I dig: guitar riffs that are more 80s inspired than anything else, chill moods, still very pop. They're not as good or as distinctive as the 1975, but I have listened to "Cardiac Arrest" just as much as any 1975 song

Can these fucking awful committee-bands with fucking awful committee names please just fuck off before ILX's dullards manage to get them onto the 2015 albums poll rundown? Cheers

Obviously it's ok if you like this shit but it should be fairly obvious from the bandname where their artistic interests lie

(i.e. their stage outfits)

am I an ILX dullard? :)

I was just trying to figure out if they have a song in an ad/game/soundtrack that I'm unaware of! something selling tix that is way off my radar.

Cardiac Arrest was played constantly on college radio stations last summer.

Yeah I think that's the biggest exposure they've gotten but that sing wasn't a huge hit or anything. At the 1975 show last year, it didn't seem like the audience knew them that well. Didn't realize they were as big as you suggest, alpine

eight years pass...

They were playing a playlist of this band at a coffee shop I was in this afternoon. Only caught the lyrics to one song which was how I managed to google them. I don't think I'd ever heard of them before. Pleasant enough music for coffee shop background ambiance. Seems like their first album is the best.
