Beyond the Basics just showed up today after a two new singles in quick succession since January.

Many thanks to Tuomas for nominating her track "Totally Right" in last year's EOY poll. It led me to her first album from 2011 Château Faux-Coupe and the tracks she's shared since then. There's a definite element of Prince/Minneapolis worship in her music; more than just simple pastiche, though. Also, her skills as a bassist are no joke.

Y.M.D. (Young Michael Douglas) seems to be the song everyone's latching onto this year, maybe due to the involvement of Lindstrøm and maybe not.

Totally Right was one of the songs I discovered going through the end of year nominations playlist. Y.M.D is even better. I would definitely be interested in hearing a whole album of this kind of thing.

How does the new album compare?

It's kind of disjointed, because it features some songs that were stand-alone singles, some stuff from the first album, and some stuff that's been released for the first time. Every track is a keeper, for sure, but it's like traveling through time if you're already familiar with part of it.

re: Bummer Gun - it looks like much of the stuff on that ended up on the mixtape at datpiff along with some material from the first album. (She seems to have released "Oslo Knows" on everything she's ever put out, which ain't a bad idea since it's a great song.)

oslo knows just came up on a random mix, cool song. love her delivery on it.

That's either her favorite of her songs or the one she thinks is the best, because it reappears on every release since 2011. Don't bother me none, because I love it as well.
