Wah! I want this. (Didn't know it existed!) Any other details, Gareth?

Gareth, these Flowchart albums have not yet been imported into the UK, [to the best of my knowledge] - they were listed on the Chunky website as forthcoming a while back [but as you probably know Chunky have now closed down re: stocking of new albums].

They are for sale online at Darla in the US.

I will always have time for Flowchart because of the fact that Cumulus Mood Twang is probably the best 'inspired by Loveless but crucially doesn't try to actually replicate Loveless' record out there. Or is at least one of them.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 1 May 2003 15:28 (twenty years ago) link

How have these guys made such a pleasant career out of sounding generically like other bands? (Seriously, I quite enjoy their stuff, but their records are like generic-Stereolab, generic-ambient, generic-blissout, etc. ... Is it just the vast spread of genericness that makes them likeable?)

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 1 May 2003 17:25 (twenty years ago) link

They know exactly what they like from everyone else and then recombine it. :-)

Not to diss this thread, but what's with the music-related threads like this and "Is IDM to dance..." appearing on ILE instead of ILM?

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 1 May 2003 17:28 (twenty years ago) link

(At the very least, you'd get more responses there.)

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 1 May 2003 17:28 (twenty years ago) link

Actually, I think Gareth is posting them here because he'll actually get better responses here (and based on Gareth's IDM thread I think he's OTM)...

Bumping for today, I can't be the only fan left.

Oh too bad. They were a good band (that I hadn't thought of in a while).

grandavis, Tuesday, 29 September 2020 15:28 (three years ago) link

A friend used to make me mixtapes and always include a Flowchart track. Very fond memories of those times, and those tunes.

grandavis, Tuesday, 29 September 2020 15:28 (three years ago) link

Yeah relistening to Cumulus Mood Twang this morning made me realize how ahead of their time they were in many ways, taking various sources of inspiration to new places. Wrote a bit about it:
