Coldplay - Viva La Vida vs. Bastille - Pompeii

My kid's elementary school choir sang both of these songs last night. They're both pretty horrible songs in my opinion, although Ive got to say they were both greatly improved by the angelic voices of the fifth graders.

My kid said that Pompeii was the overwhelming favorite of his classmates and almost, but not quite, on a level with Gangnam Style from a few years ago. He was quite surprised that I had never heard it and also that the Coldplay song had also been inescapably popular in it's time.

Viva la Vida made it higher in the charts. Pompeii has more YouTube views.

Anyway, which one of them is better?

How am I gonna be an optimist about this poll result?

i didn't notice this poll but i would have thrown "pompeii" a bone. i always found "viva la vida" slightly irritating, only somewhat b/c it was force-fed into public consciousness thru an apple commercial.

Someone on here coined "campfire stomp" recently. Not enough of an expert to determine if this adheres to the rubric.

three years pass...

had a realization this week that "pompeii" is basically a 2010s reinvention of the classic adam and the ants sound... the doubled drum accents, the "ehh-ohh" stuff, the little splashes of twanged-up morricone/pirroni guitar... no wonder i've always liked it so much.
