Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has spoken of his happiness that Florence And The Machine stepped up to headline last month's Glastonbury Festival as his band were forced to pull out of the slot.

The US band had been scheduled to headline the Friday night of the Worthy Farm event, announcing the week prior that they were unable to perform due to Grohl suffering an injury at a show in Sweden.

Speaking to Q Magazine, Grohl revealed that he first met singer Florence Welch "ages ago" and that the pair "immediately hit it off".

"I was totally looking forward to playing with them at Glastonbury," he said.

"When we cancelled and they were searching for a replacement I prayed they’d just move them to the top of the bill because they fucking deserve to be there," Grohl added. "I was so excited when they announced they would, I emailed Florence to congratulate her."

Grohl also stated that he received medical advice from Welch during the recovery of his broken foot. Welch broke her foot while performing at Coachella festival in April.

"She gave me great advice for healing broken bones and said they we’re going to cover 'Times Like These'," Grohl explained.

"The day after the gig, someone sent me a link to the performance and I cried like a fucking baby. It melted my fucking heart. I am forever indebted to them. It meant so much, you have no idea."

"Dave if you're listening, we love you. We all love you," Welch declared prior to the cover.

Foo Fighters will return to the UK later this year for a series of replacement live dates.

Grohl and co will play two shows at Milton Keynes Bowl on September 5 and 6. Iggy Pop will support the band at the gigs.

They will also play Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium on September 8. Royal Blood and Honeyblood will open for that show.

this thread isn't really about this story, I just wanted to have a place I could post whenever Dave grohl does or says something that reinforces his listicle/facebook macro/chive/"Louis ck on talk show telling internet age emotional truths" persona

two years pass...

While the Grohl family had always been musical-the family sang together on long car trips, harmonizing to Motown and David Bowie-Virginia never expected her son to become a musician, let alone a rock star. But when she saw him perform in front of thousands of screaming fans for the first time, she knew that rock stardom was meant to be for her son. And as Virginia watched her son’s star rise, she often wondered about the other mothers who raised sons and daughters who became rock stars. Were they as surprised as she was about their children’s fame? Did they worry about their children’s livelihood and wellbeing in an industry fraught with drugs and other dangers? Did they encourage their children’s passions despite the odds against success, or attempt to dissuade them from their grandiose dreams? Do they remind their kids to pack a warm coat when they go on tour?

Virginia decided to seek out other rock star mothers to ask these questions, and so began a two-year odyssey in which she interviewed such women as Verna Griffin, Dr. Dre’s mother; Marianne Stipe, Michael Stipe of REM’s mother; Janis Winehouse, Amy Winehouse’s mother; Patsy Noah, Adam Levine’s mother; Donna Haim, mother of the Haim sisters; Hester Diamond, Mike D of The Beastie Boys’ mother.

This does not seem like a deeply perceptive inference.
