I saw Frankie Cosmos in St. Louis a few nights ago and picked up Zentropy, which I'd managed not to hear until now. I want to hear more. However, a visit to her Bandcamp at http://www.ingridsuperstar.bandcamp.com reveals something like 40 different releases. Where should I start?

Geez, nice way to kill off a perfectly polite thread back in August.
Anyway, I liked this track!

album of the year. i don't care.
mattresslesness, nagl. there is something so harmful and misogynistic about that very specific aversion to twee.

Glad this thread popped to life. I heard a song the other day by her and thought it was pretty good. Was probably "On the Lips?" Anyway, celebrity kid is usually a red flag, but had never heard of her and now plan to explore!

The first time I saw her was on the BJ Rubin show. I think she's really good at what she does, and I dig it. The video should maybe come with an epilepsy warning though. (Sorry if this doesn't embed right, I haven't posted any videos on here.)

oh man, this record rules!!! saw her in Rolling Stone and looked up 'Art School Girl,' hated it- but Next Thing is phenomenal. Every song. Her vocals esp sound great.

on the lips is the best song on that record but someone already posted it.
this is a good artist and i disagree with mattresslessness that the person who expressed interest in her work a few years ago should kill themselves

fuck yeah, she's awesome! I keep coming back to that record
― niels, Wednesday, 26 April 2017 12:59 (six years ago) link
holy hell, matresslessness was right, this is garbage

Does what she does well, but man do I hate it.

been meaning to pick this album up, she's great

So much hand-wringing (at least around where I live) about her coming from a wealthy family - who cares? Sour grapes and jealousy.
― flappy bird, Wednesday, 26 April 2017 18:44 (six years ago) link
agreed. besides, if that sorta thing is a dealbreaker for you in 2017 goodbye like 90% of all the bands you've heard of
― Wimmels, Wednesday, 26 April 2017 21:56 (six years ago) link
yeah, it's not like all her songs are about working class struggle
anyway, I did not realize her parents were Kevin Kline and Phoebe Cates!

All of the criticism I've encountered comes from musicians who feel artists like FC have an advantage in the ability to hire lawyers, managers, and most importantly publicists right out of the gate. Which is... whatever, there are plenty of failed bands that had that.
And then Chris Ott just hates her.

i wish she was a classic house or techno producer instead of an indie rock artist, i think that is the main thing that annoys me about her, her confusing name, otherwise she just seems like standard twee indie rock and that is not my bag for the most part

reviving this because it's the kind of thing i love and ilm hates and i want to impose my will on the universe today

I am excited to see her next week!

i'm excited for you bro

"on the lips" is an unassuming masterpiece.
Next Thing is a great record!!! I was really surprised it didn't get as much critical love as I thought it deserved

Seeing her at the Ottobar on Thursday. Some of her early bandcamp-only material is great, just requires weeding through a lot of duds. "Weave Got It Made" and "Love Song to Jom's Girlfriend" are my favorites from her pre-Zentropy days.
