really digging her stuff, figured she could stand to have her own thread outside the rolling r&b. new EP four pink walls out today, album coming later in the year. her voice is good (not earth-shattering), but the lyrics in particular stand out imo, they feel natural w/o being like some attempt at "rawness"
i especially like the title track, particularly the wah-wah guitar in the pre-chorushttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_1QRgeZbiY
imo, she does several styles really well already, she's not trying to make shit that all sounds like "here." which bodes well for what a full album might sound like, like this one is basically reverby synthpophttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMKPK72SSXk

alessia cara is jem
same slight diagonal positioning vis-a-vis the trip-hoppy stuff of the era, same first single about being a (sorta) outsider

Well, if you want to hold up a big sign saying TRIP-HOP, an "Ike's Rap II" sample is the way to do it, wau.

I like "Here" a lot, but tried the album on Spotify and didn't like anything else.
