a) the pope is releasing an album
b) that's not so unusual except it's a rock album
c) rolling stone premiered it
d) and compared it to godspeed you! black emperor

Vatican Shadow mashup essential.

(let's not make this a pun thread; I'm actually quite curious to hear this)

(it's holy, see)

twunty fifteen (imago), Friday, 25 September 2015 15:39 (eight years ago) link

this isn't a pun thread, I genuinely do not dislike this new track by the pope

imago:

Musician Tony Pagliuca, who composed several Wake Up! songs including "Wake Up! Go! Go! Forward!," tells Rolling Stone, "In the Seventies, I founded the prog-rock band Le Orme and topped the charts, toured Italy and U.K. and had the chance to collaborate with international artists like Peter Hammil and David Jackson (Van Der Graaf Generator). During the years, I also made an important journey of faith. When Don Giulio Neroni asked me to collaborate on this CD, I immediately accepted with enthusiasm.

this song is great

nxd, Friday, 25 September 2015 15:41 (eight years ago) link

except the singing at the end

nxd, Friday, 25 September 2015 15:41 (eight years ago) link

Predictions on which publication will run the most offensive stunt review of this album?

Evan R, Friday, 25 September 2015 15:42 (eight years ago) link

How quickly can Ghost BC get a cover out?

jmm, Friday, 25 September 2015 15:43 (eight years ago) link

Yeah I saw that xps! Very cool if that's an influence. VdGG certainly feel very liturgical at their most powerful

twunty fifteen (imago), Friday, 25 September 2015 15:44 (eight years ago) link

This is proper 1980s euphoric stadium rock, it's pretty great until the Pope comes in.

Actually the Italian dude at the end is the worst. Needs to ramp up in intensity with the speech IMO.

Matt DC, Friday, 25 September 2015 15:46 (eight years ago) link

I tweeted this but the caveat is "prog-rock album" + "spoken word" + "gregorian chants" = "enigma album"

It's not quite bombastic enough for me. It has very prog signifiers but I feel like it lacks the self-belief to go all the way for fear of alienating potential listeners. But you're the Pope! You're infallible! You can properly prog it up if you want.

emil.y, Friday, 25 September 2015 15:50 (eight years ago) link

needed better title like 'N Sick Lick Y'all

hunangarage, Friday, 25 September 2015 15:52 (eight years ago) link

god that's a rough song. would've preferred a papal cover of 'wake me up before you go-go' tbh

The Pope is out-Boning Bono.

at least it has been confirmed that he is the Progressive Pope

twunty fifteen (imago), Friday, 25 September 2015 16:11 (eight years ago) link

now quite worried that if the pope dies, they'll just replace him with the guy from stiltskin

Got to say, his flow is pretty weak.

Has he opened up the books from the Vatican bank circa 41-45 yet?

would be a nice gesture to send this cd to people who got raped by priests or who were told wearing condoms is a sin and are now dying of aids

just a thought

So the Pope would effectively be telling them to 'Wake Up!'? xp

twunty fifteen (imago), Friday, 25 September 2015 17:23 (eight years ago) link

I am sure there will be lots of people who were completely broken by child abuse in industrial schools like Artane that will find this twitter friendly pope a real jolly old wheeze x0===

xelab, Friday, 25 September 2015 17:40 (eight years ago) link

le orme have serious italian prog cred. i mean they're top-tier, up there with latte e miele, banco, etc...

Looking forward to all the think pieces on this album, there is certainly plenty to Pontifficate about.

I wish the pope made a cover version of Father John Misty's cover of Blank Space.

cpl593H, Friday, 25 September 2015 20:18 (eight years ago) link

folks

we have to do this as a pre-cover

agreed?

twunty fifteen (imago), Friday, 25 September 2015 22:27 (eight years ago) link

if we do this as a pre-cover i solemnly pledge to do my song entirely in the language of latin

twunty fifteen (imago), Friday, 25 September 2015 22:28 (eight years ago) link

yeah that would be great, if you are indeed a fucking shameless desparado with shit taste. You will fit in here well boy!

xelab, Friday, 25 September 2015 22:39 (eight years ago) link

Probably a bit impolite but I had to be a carer for my mother when she had a breakdown in my teenage years and I see the Catholic church as one of the evils.

xelab, Friday, 25 September 2015 22:59 (eight years ago) link

a pre-cover of this would be anything but devout. it might even be a trifle blasphemous!
