It kind of just sounds like a rock band goofing off in another style, sort of like some Zeppelin album tracks.

judging from the record cover maybe they're going for a mediocre 70s AOR kind of thing?

I could almost picture this song being played by some also-ran on the Old Grey Whistle Test

― Whiney G. Weingarten, Friday, 9 October 2015 20:42 (eight years ago) link
They don't sound like 70s AOR though? More like Devo circa "Good Thing."

lol Whiney

didn't much care for that song but it seems to honour an established tradition of buttrock or pop-metal bands turning themselves into some quasi-new wave thing

is this what it would have sounded like if fatboy slim had produced an offspring album?
― scott seward, Friday, 9 October 2015 21:52 (eight years ago) link
2012 offspring happened. offspring and EODM should tour together.

Brazilian website Whiplash.net made a very favorable review, giving the album a score 8 out of 10 and noting that: "The album is not flawless, but the guitars are back, there are some "whooas" and that sounds like they are returning to a long lost path."
sounds like spoon

Mentioned a couple times upthread; but yeah, definitely a strong Devo-vibe to it.

Ok Go don't have enough surly to fit, maybe not enough self-awareness. The Darkness and Andrew WK have the surliness, though the self awareness is less easy to parse. Har Mar Superstar might fit, conceptually. Midnight Vultures seems to be a prologue, as does Soundgarden's cover of "Girl U Want". ZZ Top's "Gotsta Get Paid" is the godfathers coming back and reclaiming their territory
