Yay! Meetup! I will try!

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Thursday, 31 October 2002 21:48 (twenty-one years ago) link

Mind I say "meetup" but as I will be performing I will be 1) irritatingly full of energy and 2) running hither and yon all night because I can't sit still

but I do love getting to meet people from ilX0r if only for a few moments

J0hn Darn13ll3 (J0hn Darn13ll3), Thursday, 31 October 2002 21:58 (twenty-one years ago) link

but the rest of us can meet while we listen to your sweet sweet songs of geography and heartbreak and elbowlingus.

JOHN WILL YOU BE COMING TO OLYMPIA?

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 31 October 2002 22:25 (twenty-one years ago) link

no immediate plans for the west Jess as it is very hard to get out that way without losing lots of money -- that said I'm hoping to do Bozeman Boise Seattle Portland & Olympia in maybe February or March

Maybe we can turn that "maybe" upside down....? *bats eyelashes* (J0hn, I'd love to meet you at a possible Seattle and/or Olympia show, if it happens, ya know)

And last I checked, Vancouver has a handful of M0untain Goatx0r nutzoids fannies.

Will marathon man Tim Adams be there with his beautiful wife Kathleen?
May fly over.
Stay lucky.

Is that you, Mr T?

John, I REALLY wish you would schedule your NE-area appearances AROUND my Chem labs, not during. As a result, I shan't be able to scoot up to Cambridge for some Goat love. Please consult me before booking your next tour. Thank you, and God Bless.

i was hoping this would be about chicago (the band). today I spent some quality time with "if you leave me now" and fuck if that is not a classic ballad. I mean, sure, ruined in a manner by soft-rock stations pumping it endlessly into your dentist's office and perhaps perpetually bonded with the experience of being under the influence of nitrous as a result, but c'mon.

how funny, searching for a chicago thread and I found this again and it's still not about the band Chicago. Heard the strains of "Saturday in the Park" last night on NPR and immediately had to go listen to the entire song.

does peter cetera always, always multitrack his vocals or does he just have a voice that consistently sounds like it's harmonizing w/ itself?

anyway, i have a soft spot for this song, even if the shift from verse to chorus is a little stilted. it's hard to deny the hooks. and i like how straightforward it is. there's no subtext. it's just there.

nice to know other folks here agree (that it's a good song).

always fascinated by how those 80s/90s music videos from soundtracks integrate footage from the film.

here's the best/worst example:

"So Much To Say, So Much To Give" from Chicago II (or "Tanto para decir, tanto para dar" as it is titled on my copy) has a rad example of how the 3 main vocalists work so well together, with Robert Lamm's lead lines punctuated by Cetera and Kath adding harmonized "FREEEE TOO!!" and "PEO-PLE!"

I'm visiting Chicago for the first time in 25 years this weekend.

Anyone willing to point me toward:
- a few of the best venues for punk / small indie / DIY / experimental live music
- a few of the best record stores

in town?
