This seems to be a new problem, since music gear geekery is going more mainstream, and it's driving me nuts.

Today's examples would be that "Prince didn't bake his tapes!" panic, and this gormless piece of shit:

Not an article per se but also super embarrassing for everyone involved. Sorry to pick on red bull whatever the fuck (ok not sorry) but it was right there.

First one is kinda accurate but poorly written, and sadly but not mysteriously focused on Zvex. It reads like something that would have ended up in Newsweek back when my parents subscribed to that magazine and they'd have some article where some poor journo/dad tries to piece something together about the Seattle Scene but like, two years after grunge broke.

Second one is hilarious in many ways.

I am willing to expand this to actual musical theory and technical stuff as well. It's a world of land mines out there.

I don't even see the point of the second one -- if it's aimed at neophytes, why identify all those pedals without saying what any of them actually do, or what distinguishes one fuzz from another?

Well, not to mention that in order to show the world of fuzz they made a picture of mostly not fuzz.

Dude really nailed that Ernie Ball volume pedal though.

Hahahahahaaaaa I just spotted the Donner Alchemy pedal. A true classic!

Say what you want - if just one person who this infographic and goes out and buys a Red Army Overdrive, it will be worth it.
