The Jags: Philadelphia's First Punk Band?

This is the band I used to watch rehearse when I was in 6th/7th grade. (Maybe it was just 7th, but I think it overlapped both.) Now I see band member Todd Shuster describing them as Philadelphia's first punk band, and so far I've seen nobody else competing for that claim. At any rate, all these years later, many of these songs still seem quite strong to me, even in these latter day recreations by Shuster:

I still find "Denise" particularly brilliant and catchy:

The band later mutated into the Impossible Years (something I only discovered very recently):

Should post this too. I remember "She's No Fun" as a Jags song:

That looks good, will grab that later. You've reminded me of the other Jags, who I'd completely forgotten; just downloaded Evening Standards.

I also remember them practicing:

The Ramones - Sheena is a Punk Rocker
[Another Ramones song, but I don't remember for sure. Maybe "Glad to See You Go."]
The Clash - Career Opportunities
Elvis Costello - I'm Not Angry
The Easybeats - Friday on My Mind
The Beatles - It Won't Be Long
The Beatles - Please Please Me
Petula Clark - Downtown

The Reds might be competition for 1st Philadelphia punks? Their first single came out in 1978

Could be. Here's a band I've never heard of:

Ah yeah, I didn't know they were from Philadelphia. Their retrospective LP just got reissued actually.

He's thinking:
His hair is short
He dresses nice
But that don't mean a thing today

Some good lines on this Impossible Years song.

Downloaded it all last week. The first half-minute of "Flower Girl" reminds me of "Sweet Child O' Mine."
