i guess i'd give tweedy wilco over don's solo career (though "sunset grill" and "heart of the matter" are all-time jams) but uncle tupelo versus the eagles?

I would listen to Tweedy covering "The Last Worthless Evening" but not Henley covering "At Least That's What You Said." So . . . I'm not sure what the correct answer here is.

don felder not dead yet! did not realize that bernie leadon rejoined the band in 2013 until recently, though.

did don henley ever form a band with his son and call it "henley"? that's sort of what i thought when i saw the thread title

was uncle tupelo willing to experiment as much as wilco though? or is this why ut > wilco?

F♯ A♯ (∞), Tuesday, 2 August 2016 20:18 (seven years ago) link

i dunno i like wilco but tupelo had a great four album arc, a gradual maturity of their sound ending in their best album then broke up

also i like them together better than apart (i am a wilco fan as well)

i guess i don't see wilco being all that "experimental" in the real sense of the word, i mean they did some production stuff etc but i never saw them being any less of a rock band than tupelo at the end of the day and they never really gave the rush of adreneline that tupelo could imo

Pull your head on out your hippy haze (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 2 August 2016 20:27 (seven years ago) link

but it's hard they broke up and wilco stayed a band so it's kind of unfair tupelo has the advantage in that sense

wilco is a good rock band

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 2 August 2016 21:48 (seven years ago) link

"The Boys of Summer" is a song released in 1984 by Eagles vocalist and drummer Don Henley, with lyrics written by Henley and music composed by Henley and Mike Campbell.

pokemon go speed run (bizarro gazzara), Tuesday, 2 August 2016 22:07 (seven years ago) link

this just seems like a question of narrative more than musical content. wilco had the same four-album arc except it ended with jay bennett getting kicked out and destroying himself through substance abuse. take away wilco's second act and i think they'd be thought of as a lot more "experimental" than they are today.

Henley's songs are better and he's a superior harmonist by any measure, and probably a better musician overall

hating on the Eagles is seriously such a drab self-identification exercise at this point, it sounds like Beatles bros who got tired of telling you how bad they hate Yoko

Saw Wilco here in Portland the other night and man oh man Jeff Tweedy is one funny guy, I'd love to see him host a talk show, Anyway, I'm voting for Tweedy because he was great that night. As as the band, as was their opening act Joan Shelley and Nathan Salzberg (?).

banjoboy, Tuesday, 6 September 2016 20:06 (seven years ago) link

Shelley and Salsburg made one of 2015's very best albums, called Over And Even. if you liked their set you should check it out.

Tweedy runs circles around Henley.
