Time for a thread of his own, outside the Shadow Ring one. Kye is on fire and nearing it's 50th release. All are worthwhile. My favorite sound artist working. Discussion of Penultimate Press and Erstwhile welcome, too.

is it true that Graham Lambkin recorded Amateur Doubles in a Honda Civic?

'Photographs' was in my top 5 AOTY a couple of years ago. It's absolutely stunning.

hate saying shit like this, but Aphorisms is likely the most "powerful" and distilled Lambkin material that i've put my ears to. apologies for the double post

* distilled (refined)

Dang, I must check this out. How does it compare to Photographs, the one he did with Jason Lescaleet about ten years ago? I LOVE that one

...eh you get the gist of it (dog latin), Friday, 22 December 2023 19:58 (three months ago) link

It's more akin to albums like Community and Gondolas. Less (seeming) incidental scenes and sound collage, more LAMBKIN (menacing, delirious, psychedelic). It sounds more thoroughly composed, with piano(s) (all sorts of piano sounds), acoustic guitar, voice, percussion (and other). The sampled / processed / concrète fragments (voice, instrumentation) sound edited and arranged v deliberately. It's visceral and volatile.

The quality/nature of the edits could be considered comparable to those on Photographs, but it's def more ramped up and zoomed in.

Okay I'm intrigued now

listened to Community after having being immersed in Gondolas and Aphorisms during the last several weeks. my appreciation for Community has always been 'so so' but it sounded masterful, after having not listened to it for over a year. it's a perfect album. my only gripe is that the cello piece towards the end always (without fail) makes me break out (singing) into the chorus of the Ballad Of Davy Crockett.

I'd love to read about people's impressions of Aphorisms and/or Gondolas. Lambkin doesn't seem to be popular on ILX, though
