finally relented w/ bruno mars this year as well - the earnestness of the chintz became endearing to me in a way

"Versace on the Floor" is my preferred also but I would never have expected that to show up "24K Magic". In any event I'd rather be hearing that on the radio than Chainsmokers

I've had few moments in the last three months when I don't walk around singing cry-ah-ha-haaayyyyy. It's become my favorite CRJ moment.

Going through the unknowns now. The Grouper track seemed slight but her music tends to become revelatory to me only after many, repeated plays. "Koffi Anan" rules

This list is looking amazing so far! Better than previous years... loving the variety.

Agree with Moka this list is great so far, my favourite rundown in years. Only a couple of mine have placed so far but there's something to like about p much every track so far.

i submitted an unweighted tracks poll but it took about .0001 seconds for grouper to become my favorite track of 2016 ~10 days before the year ended

Oranssi Pazuzu us the only track of mine that has placed. That band is definitely my #1 discovery this year. Amazing track, great album. I would listen to way more metal if I could find more stuff like this.

I had a very mixed 2016 but at a local monthly party, that time held in a big outside courtyard and me standing at the bar on top of the building overlooking the area below, the dj played FDT and it was amazing to see people waving their arms and yelling along.

this song is pleasant enough but never really struck me as a highpoint of the mixtape - was strange to me seeing it on the EOY lists of so many publications. i guess it was the single so maybe that's why

My list was unusually influenced by songs i heard at the gym this year. Work From Home really never gets old how many times you listen to it, intentionally or otherwise.

“Siempre Es Viernes En Mi Corazon” was m my #1. Slight on first listen, contains multitudes thereafter
― The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 25 January 2017 13:35 (seven years ago) link
"Work From Home" is such a solid pop song, which on the one hand is why I didn't vote for it bc it never really transcended 7/10, but on the other hand it meant it never really got old no matter how many times I heard it. Def deserves to be here in a ubiquitous-sound-of-2016 way.
Fifth Harmony's album was pretty good too, it was mostly "mustardwave and tropical house a year behind the times" but there were some really good songs there. My personal keeper was the Japan-only bonus track "Big Bad Wolf" which has been scrubbed in non-sped-up form from most of the internet for no reason? Snappy percussion and artificially elongated harmonies and some absolutely brilliant disco bass coming in on the hook

I'll have to check out that Fifth Harmony album, because "mustardwave and tropical house a year behind the times" sounds great! Voted for Work From Home as well.
― Frederik B, Wednesday, 25 January 2017 13:51 (seven years ago) link
Work From Home is great but it always felt like the raw material for a 2012-era Funkystepz remix that never came.
I fuck with Broccoli and Chance and that Young Thug track is actually pretty enjoyable but god there are a lot of nasal rappers around right now.

― Matt DC, Wednesday, 25 January 2017 13:53 (seven years ago) link
Is it nasally so much as wobbly-voiced? It bothers me as well, it's weird how 2 Chainz feels like a relief from all the singsonginess in the Chance song
lol xp yes

― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 25 January 2017 13:56 (seven years ago) link
I never warmed to "Work From Home." The repetition of"work," as on Rihanna's hit, is the year's least appealing hook.
