I Write Music And I'd Be Incredibly Appreciative If Someone Listened

Hey Everyone, I’m a relatively young singer-songwriter who released his first ever studio recording not too long ago and I’d love to get some constructive feedback. I'd be incredibly appreciative if somebody had some time to throw out a few ideas or point me in the right direction for a fitting choreography for the vibe.

The song feature the journey of an individual taking the journey down an old railway line to somebody worth the long trek. I appreciate you taking the time to listen and I’d be happy any questions you may have.

Cheers,
Dylan

The I Make Music board might be a better place for this sort of thing but it's usually for people who post regularly to these boards otherwise.

Never forget. You were born to create and contribute.

And no matter how fantastic you are (and let’s be clear — YOU ARE!), not everyone is going to love you, or what you make.

Rather than let that fact hold you back, use this episode to strengthen your soul so you can keep creating and moving ahead.

the artwork is pretty good but it would be even better if it was more literal, like if it related to the lyrics more directly than it currently does. food for thought!

Karl Malone, Sunday, 9 April 2017 17:06 (seven years ago) link

i think instead of having the person walking down railroad tracks, the person should be walking on your musical tracks. maybe have multiple people walking? maybe people walking dogs on the tracks - both the railroad tracks and the musical tracks. Lots of dogs. People like dogs. I like dogs. Do you like dogs? What is your favorite breed of dog?

sarahell, Sunday, 9 April 2017 17:09 (seven years ago) link

Didn't you already make a thread like this

global tetrahedron, Sunday, 9 April 2017 17:09 (seven years ago) link

I think walking down a railway track is reasonable, but a canal path would be a lot better. That way its not just worth it to reach somebody worth the long trek but its worth it in its self, a genial meander with vibey scenery. I'm imagining it now, its a good feeling

saer, Sunday, 9 April 2017 17:10 (seven years ago) link

Just had a great new idea!!

How about a blind person with a guide dog walking the tracks? You know, as your music is the guide to the listener, the dog is guiding the person through this unfamiliar landscape.

sarahell, Sunday, 9 April 2017 17:11 (seven years ago) link

i would like to see a dog driving an old-timey steam train, maybe leaning out of the side of the cab a bit with his ears flapping in the breeze

Raul Chamgerlain (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 9 April 2017 17:11 (seven years ago) link

walking down a railway track with your guitar in a shitty gig bag is nagl, tattered hard case or gtfo imo

stanley weebeard (bizarro gazzara), Sunday, 9 April 2017 17:12 (seven years ago) link

maybe something more like this

Karl Malone, Sunday, 9 April 2017 17:12 (seven years ago) link

and the guy walking towards the train could step off the tracks for a moment and doff his cap to the dog as he went by

Raul Chamgerlain (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 9 April 2017 17:13 (seven years ago) link

I think the dog angle is a mistake, they are too loud and upset the bucolic reverie which I try to inhabit.

That said if you mixed in their barking low in the mix, it could work, to offset or even distract from the music

saer, Sunday, 9 April 2017 17:14 (seven years ago) link

What if the dogs are paddling the canal boat

The Jams Manager (1992, Brickster) (El Tomboto), Sunday, 9 April 2017 17:21 (seven years ago) link

there is a hauntological quality to this image that really encapsulates the modern era. You should definitely incorporate it.

sarahell, Sunday, 9 April 2017 17:24 (seven years ago) link

you're the one calling dylan briscoll a giant dick - THAT'S rude imo xp

stanley weebeard (bizarro gazzara), Sunday, 9 April 2017 17:24 (seven years ago) link

what if all railroad ties were guitar strings tuned to the same note? a high-speed train could create a unbelievable glenn branca racket, tearing across the countryside. just something for you to think about dylan

Karl Malone, Sunday, 9 April 2017 17:25 (seven years ago) link

don't listen to Karl, the dog angle is the way to go.

sarahell, Sunday, 9 April 2017 17:26 (seven years ago) link

sounds like a boredoms show waiting to happen, a+ would attend xp

stanley weebeard (bizarro gazzara), Sunday, 9 April 2017 17:26 (seven years ago) link

one thing i've noticed about trains is that they don't create a loud noise as they tear across the countryside. imagine if trains made loud noises, hm

Karl Malone, Sunday, 9 April 2017 17:27 (seven years ago) link

if you're not into dogs, ducks also have great potential

sarahell, Sunday, 9 April 2017 17:28 (seven years ago) link

it's true though, the old-timey dog idea is a winner, and probably much easier to pull off

Karl Malone, Sunday, 9 April 2017 17:28 (seven years ago) link

the dog angle is the way to go.

Dylan I think you kind of buried the lede by not sharing your instagram with us in the initial post

The Jams Manager (1992, Brickster) (El Tomboto), Sunday, 9 April 2017 17:29 (seven years ago) link

if it does end up being a duck, maybe the duck bill flows up and down in the breeze as it leans its head out the window. the bill flows up and down like when you stick your hand out the window and bend and swerve it around in the wind. it creates a warm nostalgic feeling, but with the new twist of featuring a duck conducting a train

Karl Malone, Sunday, 9 April 2017 17:31 (seven years ago) link

you could definitely do a pretty easy photoshop with a family of ducks crossing the road in front of you in that pick where you're sitting on the road, though you probably want to be holding a guitar in that pic. That way people know you are a musician ... a musician that appreciates ducks.

sarahell, Sunday, 9 April 2017 17:32 (seven years ago) link

I'm onboard the duck train, definitely an improvement on dogs

saer, Sunday, 9 April 2017 17:33 (seven years ago) link

gosh, what happened there! We would never let our Asda get in a state like that

owls definitely were associated with the 2000s - the hipster avian, but I think the duck is the ascending avian of the 2010s

Ok so lets go with a duck, but how are we doing to help him fix the Asda, where is he going to shop?

the duck? Didn't know that ducks shopped!

sarahell, Sunday, 9 April 2017 17:40 (seven years ago) link

how do you make a duck shop? put it in an asda until its bill bithers

stanley weebeard (bizarro gazzara), Sunday, 9 April 2017 17:42 (seven years ago) link

*withers but bithers also kinda works

stanley weebeard (bizarro gazzara), Sunday, 9 April 2017 17:42 (seven years ago) link

how did my asda get so clean?

Raul Chamgerlain (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 9 April 2017 17:43 (seven years ago) link

As a wholly owned division of Walmart, Asda is not required to declare quarterly or half-yearly earnings, but it submits full accounts to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission each November. And, even though Asda is a subsidiary of Walmart, it has more autonomy than any of the other supermarket chains within the Walmart International division, and has retained its own British management team and board since the 1999 takeover.

sarahell, Sunday, 9 April 2017 17:43 (seven years ago) link

"The 1999 Takeover" would be a good EP title to lead into the release of The Duck Decade, perhaps

The Jams Manager (1992, Brickster) (El Tomboto), Sunday, 9 April 2017 17:47 (seven years ago) link

The 1999 Takeover sounds like the title of a rap album though, not the sincere upbeat guitar songs that dylan has branded himself with

sarahell, Sunday, 9 April 2017 17:51 (seven years ago) link

man, about an hour and a half ago i thought "i'll just make a quick dog-conducting-a-train image, should take 5 minutes or so"...i'm STILL working on it, and it STILL sucks.

so you win, dylan briscall, you win
