we've got the global rhythms thread for footwork and shangaan and all going strong, but i think it'd be nice if we had something for the more digitally networked urban club thing that's going on in a lot of cities and online.

GHE20G0TH1K seems like the ground zero for a lot of the current wave i'm looking at, but it definitely goes a little further back to Night Slugs and Fade To Mind, before it seemed like there was a bit of an aesthetic split between
a. the PC Music/DIS magazine/Holly Herndon maybe/"let's get conceptual, bbs" angle
b. the industrial ballroom and grime angle (an admittedly shitty grouping for the Lotic + the Janus crew and Rabit and Kamixlo and all)
c. the foregrounded political/diasporic/Afro-Latinx rhythms stuff (Club Chai, NON, Salviatek, Principe, N.A.A.F.I.)

there's a bunch of crossover obviously (Elysia Crampton's Demon City thing, ghe20g0th1k collabs across the board, mixes for Dummy and NTS that seem to go all over the place) so i don't wanna be reductive, but personally i really get the most excited about that third type. the Club Chai Vol. 1 comp is one of my favorite things that's come out this year, and it feels like it's the tip of a whole activist-centric dance music iceberg: besides GHE20G0TH1K in NYC and Club Chai in Oakland here in Chicago we've got Trqpiteca, Philly has (or had) ATM night, and then in Berlin Room 4 Resistance (which just DJed Trqpiteca and which Luis-Manuel Garcia, who wrote a great thesis on affective bonding in club spaces and did that dope piece on revisiting queerness in clubbing for RA, is part of) is doing a lot of similarly great stuff. and that's not even mentioning how Discwoman's been branching out from house and techno with DJ Haram and Bearcat and the other newbies.

honestly, i just love this shit. anyway yeah post ur fav off-kilter "club" tracks, albums, and mixes as you come across em

not super clubby but the Chino Amobi album is too looped into all this stuff not to post, been happy to see Chino + NON getting a lot of attention off the project

elysia crampton also just released a new album—only two tracks streaming rn on the vinyl factory, but i'm sure more will pop up online. elysia might be my fav out of all these people in the scene right now, so great at mixing the synthy stuff and compositional impulse (along with those pirate radio-type samples) with heavily syncopated rhythms.

thanks for starting this thread austin!

there's a bunch of queer polynesian/NZ stuff hooked into the elysia crampton / NON etc buzz - south auckland fafswag ballroom crew, club nights like fully explicit & kuini qontrol. been really digging a bunch of aniwaniwa's mixes, e.g. http://www.maskmagazine.com/the-amnesia-issue/life/aniwaniwa-tamaki-makaurau-megamix

mm so murlo is more "accessible"/less fringe than most the people here, but he's into Florentino and Swing Ting enough that i feel like sticking this in here/mentioning his new mixpak EP is worthwhile (even if i do mix him up with dubbel dutch sometimes)

Angel-H0 fits here i think, visual artist from Cape Town, released an album on NON randomly last year called Red Devil. I really like this track released early this year called Obeisance, he has another just released called Perched but it hasn't done as much for me

https://soundcloud.com/angel-h0/obeisance

i love the effect about a minute in. sounds like the bottom falling out of reality (heh, that's ott to say)
