I have to say, however, that despite Dave's considerable musical chops, this album smacks a little on the pathetic and disengenuous side. I understand he's a bit troubled, but ten tracks of "look how dark and disturbed I am" ring a bit hollow in light of the more flagrant rockstar shenanigans Navarro gets up to. Didn't we all get more than enough of that brand of histrionic navel-gazing with Pink Floyd's THE WALL (let alone everything by Nine Inch Nails)? I'm not decrying anyone their right to be miserable about life, but I find Navarro's painstakingly over-documented emotional agita to be completely at odds with his own excessive rock pig behavior. How does he expect people to identify or empathize with his problems when he's galivanting about in leather chaps with smack-addled whores and wiring every room of his home with secret, hidden cameras? Are we supposed to pity him, or simply marvel at his self-styled fucked-upedness?

I read the article on him in Spin and afterwards I vowed never to utter his name again. What he has become is complete comedy. From the low cut leather pants to the "buff" soul patch and perfectly styled hair, he couldn't scream "LA glam pussy" any louder. But I just HAD to watch him on Conan O'Brien just to see how cheesy he had become. I watched with sick delight as he was every bit as bad as I'd imagined. Not only was the song worse than even your standard Creed fare, his personal style and affectations were downright pukeworthy.
And I actually like JA and his guitar playing in that band.

The hilarious thing is now that Farrell and Navarro deserve each other. Neither has cred. Both have crashed and burned on the fame game. Both are washed up, if they were ever afloat to begin with (was it smoke and mirrors?). Now they come crawling back to each other in an attempt to find a kindered spirit. I bet they tell each other every day what a genius the other is.
"Dave, lets make like its 1991 again." "OK Perry, lets go pick up some speed and some chicks who will give our tortured, artistic souls blowjobs, for that is what we need as brilliante artistes." Both: "Right on!"
Or how about a "Taking Sides: Dave Navarro vs. John Frusciante" thread? Although I really can't stand the Chili Peppers (except for that lovely falsetto harpy chorus in "Under the Bridge") I'm really into John Frusciante. He's the classiest burnout in rock.

With our society so hung up about sex, yet so comfortable with violence, I think Dave's involvement in this project is a breath of fresh air and real stand for freedom of speech.

We have been biding our time, waiting for the perfect way to fuse porn, rock and celebrity into a dark new artistic vision that will put both the porn and mainstream worlds on notice. I give Dave a lot of credit for having the guts and the true rock star attitude to do what safe, corporate rockers and rappers can't. Porn is not taboo. The real taboo is people's innate fears that they will be judged for embracing sexuality. His movie sets the bar high in terms of intensity and creative expression with a focus that goes beyond the hot sex.

One Hot Minute was the only album that guitarist Dave Navarro recorded with the band. His presence altered the Red Hot Chili Peppers' sound considerably. It contains fewer sexual themes than previous records and explores darker subject matters, such as drug use, depression, anguish, and grief.

Was skimming through Scar Tissue and came across this great line about Dave.
He didn't carry with him the mysterious essence of the funk, but we weren't stressed out about that.

I've heard that "One Hot Minute" is kind of a good RHCP record, but I have not listened to it and possibly never will!

I thought Navarro was the shit in 1988 but at that time I could probably count the every guitarist I could name on one hand.
