I have been listening to moldy oldies lately, and it occurred to me that half of what I love about U.K./Factory/post-punk/trenchcoat-rock is that ungodly bela lugosi bass sound that all hooky-worshippers wielded at the time. I need more of course, even though i've got a groaning shelf of such stuff. I've been loving the first Modern English and of course Xmal Deutchland lately. Early Colin Newman solo is great for it. As is Section 25 of course. I want non-obvious examples. No Bauhaus or J.D. or Siouxsie. They are all world famous! I bought a U.K.Decay album last week hoping and hoping, but, alas, aside from a couple of good Bauhaus rips their bass player was hiding under the table or something. If you do want to talk about the bass on "Arabian Nights" and why it makes you froth at the mouth, that's fine, I'll understand.
