Anyone actually get to see Gauze, Gism or others back in the day?
What are good first releases I should check out?

gism have a couple of anthologies out, i think - the song "tear their syphilitic vaginas to pieces" is something of a, uh, classic. lip cream is pretty crazed. confuse is definitely my favorite - sick hardcore recorded on a boombox so it winds up sounding like an early precursor of masonna.
and s.o.b. - i don't know if anything is available by them now, but their side of that split flexi with napalm death is great and haunts me that i never bought any of their albums when i had the chance.

I nearly bumped this thread yesterday. Crazy.
Need to check out some Lip Cream. And Gauze. Maybe Systematic Death?

Systematic Death played in London last year, they fucking rocked. They just put out 2 discography CDs.
Lip Cream and especially Gauze are amazing.
Also check out Outo, Execute, Confuse, Gai, Swankys, Gudon... I could probably go on...
You can get classic Japanese HC comp Thrash Til Death here

Shit yeah duh totally forgot the Stalin!

They're a bit less manic hardcore though and more punk.

You want manic?

But, yeah, I'll have to check out those other names!

Try Equalizing Distort by Gauze. Their 1st album Fuck Heads is good too but they really nailed it on their 2nd album. I wish they'd play here but apparently they mainly just do occasional gigs in Tokyo due to other commitments. They put out an album last year which was just as good as their 80s stuff.

No Side by The Comes is another good one.

Was listening to the (possibly non-legit - a bunch of it sounds mastered from vinyl) 2CD Lip Cream discography Shocking Disc Terror, and it seems one step behind, even for when it was originally happening. They were doing Exploited/GBH style stuff in '86-'89, when US hardcore had already moved on to knuckle-dragging thrash-influenced almost-metal (Sick Of It All, Gorilla Biscuits, Judge et al.). Sure, they were fast and manic, but they were practically a retro act even when they were new. Okay I guess, but hardly innovative or inspirational.

I'm not sure hardcore needs to be innovative, I mean that's hardly the point of it. A lot of hardcore fans liked the Japanese stuff in the late 80s precisely because they didn't go the crossover route.

metal RUINED hardcore, it's a fact.

I wouldn't go that far. I mean, I like some of that metallic NYHC stuff. Just saying like.

is there anywhere on the internet that has GISM lyrics for the whole Detestation album? (Everything I've found seems to only have half the words transcribed.)
Moreover, what exactly is Sakevi ranting about between the main lyrics in Endless Blockades...? I can make out a few things like "Where's your neighbor? I dunnooo.""You're fucking up...""Do you like ____(inaudible)? No, they SUCK!""Kill... PEOPLE!!!"Other than that it's just an engrish ink blot test. I'm not even sure there's anyone on earth who can answer this but might as well ask. This band is such a mystery to me.
