How great is "No Diggity"?

I'm listening right now and it sounds like the best song ever recorded. Anybody think of any other examples of stompin "doo-wop g-funk"?

Pretty frickin' great. Go to my website, spongiex.pitas.com, and you'll see it ranked third in my top 100 singles of the 1990s.

Michaelangelo - are you still planning on doing that Dave Marsh-style top 1001 on your site ? I'd love to see that.

Quite possibly, Patrick. I'll let you know more as I think of it....

How good is "No Diggity"? VERY, very good and its the only example of stompin' doo-wop g-funk that comes to mind for me anyways. "We be the baddest clique!!"...Whatever happened to Blackstreet and by the way what was that tune they did with Slash? I cant remember the name of it.

I wonder what happened to Blackstreet- No Diggity is fantastic without question, and that track they did with Ol' Dirty Bastard, Fishbone (!) and Slash (?) was alright, too.. Aside from, well, Slash.. but still.

Montell Jordan? Warren G? They don't quite have the "doo-wop" down, though.

A sonic blast of moonlight!

Godlike...but even the original pales in comparison with DJ Hype's remix of said tune.

EVEN BETTER? Impossible.

Best recorded song title tonight goes to "Horse and Carriage" by Cam'ron feat. Mase.

That Hype remix is fantastic. It does indeed have even more bollocks than the original. He did a pretty good (albeit similar) job on Jay-Z's "Aint no nigga" (although they re-titled it "Aint no playa" for the UK market).

The man has lost his skill on the R&B remixes though - anyone catch the tragedy that was his "Oh no" mix? Nu-skool breaks garbage...

Yeah, there was an overlooked golden age of GRATE Ganja Kru R&B mixes circa 97 - the tracks from Missy's first album especially and above and beyond all the indescribably excellent remix of Mel B's "Want You Back".

Also: "No Diggity" was brilliant, yo. I also liked "Girlfriend/Boyfriend" too. FYI, Blackstreet basically folded post Finally and Teddy Riley went and reformed Guy instead - the line between the two groups tends to be a bit hazy though IMHO.

Michael and Bobby: I think you're thinking of "Fix", which was a above average song in its own right, despite having the unappetizing combo of Blackstreet, Slash, Fishbone, and ODB.

fff... shudder. What's next, Tricky and Alanis Morissette?
