Just sold some old hardcore / punk video comps on ebay and watched 'em all one last time before I sent them. Was reminded by two seperate performances how fucking mind blowing Los Crudos were. Been going back and listening to their records the past 24 hours. Anyone remember them?

as for the records, keep the 7" with "asensios" on it, the rest can take or leave
possibly the best 80s hardcore band ever, except, y'know, from the 90s

Wish I'd gotten to see 'em live. There's a pretty good piece on the last Crudos show in an old issue of Scenery. Number nine, I think. If anyone's interested in reading it I can type it up.

funny, the only other time i saw them was a year before that at tempe bowl in arizona. they were good at playing bowling alleys.
they related stories from thier tour through mexico in which 1000 kids broke down the door of a club in mexico city with a capacity of only 500 or something. "they wanted their rock and roll and they didnt want to pay for it," martin told me with a smile.

Wow, what a weird reference... I have Googled the Betapunks with little success after flashing back to some traumatic if wholly unique movie nights of theirs at the Biograph in Georgetown in the early 90s...

Los Crudos’ set was also essential, not simply because of the music but through Martin’s words. Crudos are an inspiration; a band able to play as well as they speak. Martin is both humorous and moving, interrupting his serious thoughts by taking jabs at the divided crowd; claiming that all the Spanish-speaking people in attendance were up front, while the English-speaking people were in the back. As a final plea to incorporate their entire crowd they played their only song with English lyrics, “We’re that Spic Band.” This ploy worked, the energy in the room was at its highest. But it would be Martin’s speech on inspiration that will stick with me forever. Welling up with tears, Martin described how feels to hear from those who tell him that he is an inspiration, and how his inspiration is seeing young punks changing their scene, becoming involved. Martin’s willingness to portray genuine emotion and talk about real issues on stage is rare in hardcore. Crudos don’t fake it. They are the real deal.
Have still never heard these folks. I guess I should give 'em a listen.
