I'm looking for mental sparse electronic Hip Hop type stuff, any recomendations?

I'm thinking stuff like Beans, old Autechre (I know they are very different), Jamie Lidell's live stuff (I find his recorded output a little obtuse), kind of like the earlier warp sound with modern production. Does such music exist? Hit me up with some nice ideas if you have a moment.

2nd Gen (on Mute)
(although he's not exactly sparse, in fact, he's really noisy -- more like a Bomb Squad production)

how is viktor vaughn electronic?

titchyschneider (titchyschneider), Thursday, 28 October 2004 14:54 (nineteen years ago) link

The production on much of it is glitchy and electronic....

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Thursday, 28 October 2004 15:06 (nineteen years ago) link

it is? hmmmm, i remember it being mostly traditional 90s hip hop beats.

titchyschneider (titchyschneider), Thursday, 28 October 2004 15:26 (nineteen years ago) link

the viktor vaughn is awful electronic beats and backpacker rhymes. all the mf doom shit is good. but the beats aren't necessarily traditional. he samples weird 80s soft r'nb & lounge. how he got there from here i'll never know

I can't think of a Doom album that has "traditional 90s hip hop beats."

"Fall Back/Titty Fat" is awful? "Rae Dawn"? On what planet?

Rollie Pemberton (Rollie Pemberton), Thursday, 28 October 2004 16:04 (nineteen years ago) link

i don't remember song titles, but i do remember liking the first vaugn album considerably more than the second (which i hated). the song with t.love was pretty rad.

JaXoN (JasonD), Thursday, 28 October 2004 16:10 (nineteen years ago) link

its not awful but the VV beats are nowhere as good as his own beats when he produces himself.

eleven years pass...

I never really got into hip-hop but I heard "Tivoli" by Stacs Of Stamina on a compilation I thought it was amazing. It's a shame they never taken off.

Prefuse 73 - Vocal Studies & Uprock Narratives is probably one of my top 10 albums of the 2000s.
