Can anyone reccomend some new MELODIC electronica?

Nothing too repeditive or has sections that don't change for more than 40 seconds. Maybe I'm ADD, but that stuff bores me - something with some pop sensiblities. I'm just trying to broden my horizons here a bit, folks. Thanks.

steady on, old chap.

adam.r.l. (nordicskilla), Friday, 28 January 2005 19:31 (nineteen years ago) link

Slightly randomly, Radio Slave's 'Bang Bang'.

How new does it have to be?

Alba (Alba), Friday, 28 January 2005 19:32 (nineteen years ago) link

Not that new - I'm a pop dude, so chances are I would have missed out anyway. I'll check out Radio Slave - thanks!

darin (darin), Friday, 28 January 2005 19:36 (nineteen years ago) link

Something along these lines, maybe?
Little Cat "D"

Real poppy stuff for the most part.

bprofane (AaronHz), Friday, 28 January 2005 19:39 (nineteen years ago) link

'Give it Away' - Luomo & Raz O'Hara
'Frei/Hot Love' (Justus Köhncke Remix) - Freiland
'Who Pays The Bill' - Ada
'You Take My Breath Away' - The Knife
'Autobahn Music Box' - Cut Copy
'My Week Beats Your Year' - Telefon Tel Aviv
'Ice Skating Girl (Linus Loves Remix)' - Rekindle
'All The Above' - Dani Siciliano

Alba (Alba), Friday, 28 January 2005 19:41 (nineteen years ago) link

That Radio Slave is actually a lot more loopy that I thought - my other suggestions are probably better.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 28 January 2005 19:44 (nineteen years ago) link

Nice! Me likey what I'm hearing so far (Radio Slave & the Little Cat stuff).

darin (darin), Friday, 28 January 2005 19:47 (nineteen years ago) link

My brain is exploding trying to figure out if Mylo counts. Probably not.

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 28 January 2005 19:48 (nineteen years ago) link

Plaid - Not For Threes
Nobukazu Takemura - Sign
Schneider TM - Zoomer
Dykehouse - Midrange
µ-Ziq - Lunatic Harness

Brian Miller (Brian Miller), Friday, 28 January 2005 19:48 (nineteen years ago) link

Ah, cool.

Thing is, a lot of tracks are melodic but also kind of repetitive. Mylo might come under that. Try 'Wolves Of Miami' though - it's great.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 28 January 2005 19:50 (nineteen years ago) link

If we're going back a bit like that, then yeah: Schneider TM seconded, plus Ellen Allien Berlinette, plus, hell, you'd probably like Royksopp's Melody A.M.. Also Justus Kohncke's Doppelleben.

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 28 January 2005 19:51 (nineteen years ago) link

Try Team Doyobi or Datach'i. Also Ddamage, although I'm not sure if they fit the "electronica" tag.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Friday, 28 January 2005 19:51 (nineteen years ago) link

And you should absolutely get Superpitcher's 'The Long Way'.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 28 January 2005 19:52 (nineteen years ago) link

some more not quite new:
Postal Service - Give Up
Max Tundra - Mastered by Guy at the Exchange
Nathan Michel - Dear Bicycle

o. nate (onate), Friday, 28 January 2005 19:55 (nineteen years ago) link

These suggestions are great. Also - if anyone has any stand out tracks they can recommend, that would be cool too. I'm going to make a mix to listen to over the weekend.

darin (darin), Friday, 28 January 2005 19:58 (nineteen years ago) link

Oh - all mine are tracks not albums. I don't know how obvious to get. The revival of the 'Rippin Kittin' thread reminds me how great that is.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 28 January 2005 19:59 (nineteen years ago) link

Get Royksopp's 'Remind Me (Someone Else's Mix)'

Alba (Alba), Friday, 28 January 2005 20:00 (nineteen years ago) link

Ladytron's 'Discotraxx'?

What with that and the Miss Kittin I suddenly have a ridiculous nostalgia the electroclash scene I never really knew.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 28 January 2005 20:05 (nineteen years ago) link

Gotcha.

Thanks again everyone. New music=happy Darin

darin (darin), Friday, 28 January 2005 20:06 (nineteen years ago) link

Arovane - Lilies, is incredibly melodic, and smoothly un-repetitive too. I'm not sure if it's 'pop' enough though.

Anything by Barbara Morgenstern would be a good bet, and I can't not second the Ellen Allien suggestion even though I'd have considered that more 'techno' it's definitely catchy enough to work as pop too.

Mouse On Mars - Rost Pocks. Definitely electronica, cheery, tuneful, pop and very much inventive and always changing throughout their tracks. That would be my pick if you haven't ever heard them.

lurking but not, Friday, 28 January 2005 20:07 (nineteen years ago) link

The only Barbara Morgenstern track I have is 'Nichts Und Niemand' and it's very nice.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 28 January 2005 20:12 (nineteen years ago) link

If we're recommending Ellen Allien, then I have to recommend The Modernist too. It might be more minimal than you want, but the melodies are extremely catchy. If you're seeking out the "Hot Love" remix on Kompakt 100 then you should hear The Modernist's remix of Justus Koencke on the same comp.

I'll second Lurking's Mouse on Mars recommendation.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Friday, 28 January 2005 20:19 (nineteen years ago) link

That modernist/koencke remix is my favorite on the album i think

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Friday, 28 January 2005 20:21 (nineteen years ago) link

Ulrich Schnauss, more melodies than you shake a stick at.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Friday, 28 January 2005 20:24 (nineteen years ago) link

that psapp record on leaf is melodic. it wasn't quite what I thought it would be like (it's a lot like Lali Puna) but you might like it.

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 28 January 2005 20:25 (nineteen years ago) link

Annie!

(This thread title is insulting, etc, blah blah blah)

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Friday, 28 January 2005 20:26 (nineteen years ago) link

I tried getting into Lali Puna a few years back and failed miserably, but I'll add psapp to my list nontheless.

Sorry if the thread title is insulting. I know all music is melodic, but just didn't want too many droney suggestions.

darin (darin), Friday, 28 January 2005 20:33 (nineteen years ago) link

Can't go wrong with anything by Zero 7. "Warm Sound" might be might favorite track.

Cut Copy
Mouse On Mars
Nathan Michel

Excellent!

Alba (Alba), Friday, 28 January 2005 20:36 (nineteen years ago) link

The last Bis album "Return to Central" is pretty melodic and poppy and electronic.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Friday, 28 January 2005 20:38 (nineteen years ago) link

TIED + TICKLED TRIO - Observing Systems. Okay, there are lots of woodwinds and live instruments involved, but it has definite electronic touches and feel, and it's sooooo melodic and awesome (its some guys from the Notwist btw).

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 28 January 2005 21:28 (nineteen years ago) link

That is excellent. I'm not sure it's possible to not-love Max Tundra.

Ulrich Schnauss is a great suggestion. Beautiful stuff.

Wookie Rookie, Saturday, 29 January 2005 01:31 (nineteen years ago) link

Wow! Been 'out- Schnaussed' . Twice!

I've only heard three tracks , all very melodic.

Thanks for reminding me to actually get my hands on an album. Any particular recommendations would be appreciated.

Fila Brazillia were once very melodic. The two Fila guys are sound sound blokes btw and big Hull City fans. I just find it hard talking to them about their recent output and concentrate on football.

the new union of knives album fits this bill perfectly. i'm just off to see if there's a thread about them. i may be some time.

there isn't. one day there will be, but until then here's a link. the EP didn't do much for me, but really: the album is quite, quite wonderful.

animal collective is melodic as fuq

held tony (held tony), Saturday, 22 July 2006 09:54 (seventeen years ago) link

Unless I've been listening to the wrong albums, I wouldn't classify Animal Collective as electronica.
