Have you heard this guy? Really out of control and very eerie. Any info about him anywhere?

There was a good historical article on him in issue # 9 of the zine Popwatch.

i bought his reissue record because i loved the alastair galbraith song 'pip proud'(even if it is only 50 seconds or something) and i didn't much like pip, it was a bit primitive which is ok but he didn't seem as spiritual or ethereal as i wanted him to be.

Didn't this fellow do a record with Tom Carter from Charalimbides? How was that?

i heard it's great. never heard it tho.

the Half-A-Cow collection of his early stuff is pretty weird and beguiling, but not exactly "the Australian Syd Barrett" (in fact far from it) as had been advertised to me ( by one Alastair Galbraith, as it happens.) Alastair and David Nichols from the Cannanes are massive fans. apparently Proud has no teeth and lives out in a shack in the Australian desert.

I should listen to that again. I don't know if I've quite come to fathom what he was doing on those records yet (he had two albums out on a major label in Australia in the late '60s). It's very charming, to say the least.

Pip is one of my favorite 60s guys also one of the only ones to make a credible comeback decades later. I love all of his stuff in all of its absurdism and creaky apocalytic folk grandeur.

From an australian friend of mine:

"seems too that david nichols of sydney band the cannanes is a big fan and did a radio special on him not so long ago on PBS - a great melbourne community station. apparently they also recorded an EP together with Laurna McFarlane who was, oddly enough, the original drummer for sleater-kinney. she's a melbournite and has been living back there for a while now, playing in a band called ninetynine."

excellent news... can replace my warped and gouged copy of adreneline & richard and finally hear a bird in the engine!

also just discovered there's a new comp drawn from the above along with tracks from his first recording. not sure i buy coley's barrett conspiracy, but: http://www.forcedexposure.com/reviewPipProud.aspx
