I just got "Ghetto Beats On The Surface of the Sun" which I love (in spite of its awful title). I understand they used to be much less drum-heavy, so I'm curious to see what the old sound was like. Where should I start?

"from bone to satellite" is great, and i only just now realized that the title is some kind of reference to 2001. it only took me 8 years to figure that out.

so what do they sound like?
― messiahwannabe, Monday, 1 September 2008 08:12 (fifteen years ago) link
very slow and iterative, but slowly evolving. Listening to them is like watching time-lapse video of the universe forming.

It's not like his former band anymore, but Jefre Cantu-Ledesma's new record is amazing. First 2015 record I'm gaga for. File under Belong (!), Tim Hecker bringing Cocteau Twins back to life as if they found them playing on a on transistor radio found on the bottom of the ocean. Stellar.

^^haha no way that is going to live up to your description but thanks - I'll definitely check it out

Well prepare to be bitterly disappointed then, Willem ;-)

Yeah Jefre's solo work in general has been on that level. Still blows my mind that a couple of years ago I identified one album as sounding very Lovesliescrushing-like and he told me that they were an exact inspiration!

people should give Danny's solo records a listen. Mostly all acoustic guitar, fahey-esque, gorgeous.
