Present, sir. First: High On Fire, High On Fire, High On Fire, High on Fire. "Art of Self-Defense" on vinyl comes with a 7" where they cover a Celtic Frost song, whole thing's utter genius. CD coming out on TeePee shortly. Second, Relapse is making collectors angry and completists happy by issuing "First Daze Here," which compiles proto-doom band Pentagram's best moments and a couple of unreleased tracks. The closing "Last Days Here" is just GREAT. Try also Warhorse and Electric Wizard if you like; I'm told Dead Meadow is good too but I haven't heard them. Search also the label Southern Lord.

Not good for house cleaning? Try Immortal's "Sons of Northern Darkness," then. It'll trim your total housecleaning time by at least half.

I like Orange Goblin as well... If you like your 'doom' with a bit of southern-fried boogie, check out Drunkhorse (from Oakland!)... Sleep's 'Jerusalem' is out of print now, somebody should reissue that for sure.

winter! "into darkness"! it's like celtic frost on a whole pile of downers. khanate's self-titled on on southern lord is pretty great - especially when they do digital manipulations of alan dubin's voice on a couple of tracks. electric wizard. eyehategod. warhorse. the first cathedral record counts, if you can deal with the vocals. sleep. saint vitus (the grandfathers of the genre), especially on their debut. if you ever see any 7"s by 13... thems is pretty good too.

dead meadow, incidentally, is pretty great musically (although it's more in a 'hard doom rock' vein comparable to the obsessed maybe) but the vocals are GODAWFUL. kind of keening and tuneless high-pitched groaning... but the music is really, really nice so i can generally ignore the vocals.

Most of the good stuff's been mentioned, but the doomier end of black metal is pretty spectacularly weird as well (it's pretty much the only goth I can stand, hail satan): Esoteric, Skepticism. But I think "Dopethrone" is the best slow metal album ever. I also hate the stoner humor; quit giggling you fucking hippies.

about all i listened to over the last month was this early '70s shit like the Groundhogs' "Split", the 2 High Tide albums, "Suicide" by Stray, "Suicide" by Dust, Budgie, blah blahb\ blah. quite a regime. i'm feelin great!

Woah, people who love "Dopethrone" as much as I do. Maybe it's destined to be an underground classic. Also, taking a literal interpretation of the question, who else thinks the thrashing metal tracks on the DOOM computer game soundtrack are really great. I know a couple of them are Alice In Chain ripoffs, but I'm talking about the originals - and the song that sounds like a ripoff of Metallica's "Master Of Puppets" is actually an IMPROVEMENT to my ears.
