That's a great, one, yes, but weren't they supposed to release something new this year?

Around February 2004 I finally bought a CD copy of that Pearl Jam radio broadcast from when Vitalogy came out, and towards the end they play "Tattoo" which I had never heard before. And this finally influenced me to buy The Who Sell Out which had been on my list for many years, and now I consider it the best thing The Who ever released. True story.

They were supposed to, but then again they're always supposed to. Pete was trying to do some stuff but then, you know, Zak had to go off with Oasis, and Rachel Fuller wanted some time with her special friend, and Roger and Simon Townshend can work on the stuff themselves, and Pete's got those memoirs to do...

Alton Clarke - Almost Made You Cry

eleven years pass...

Thing song is pretty incredible. The music is so great. The lyrics are some of the best ever.

A mysterious arpeggio of guitar picking, curiously descending as the narrator tells us this story and asks these questions. The question is one of identity and gender roles, he and his brother asking "What makes a man a man?". They ponder the possible mental, physical, and astrological dimensions to this gender identity. The past has already spoken - "Our old man didn't like our appearance/He said that only women wear long hair" - and is found limiting. They go to their mother for the money for their future transformation. The past is male and the future is female.

Not going to go into the rest cos I'm sure it's been done a million times. Let's just say the lyrics are hilarious and insightful and ahead of its time all at once. The Who were quite a futuristic band in many ways and their early experimental tracks could get quite cybernetic.
