A.R.E. Weapons - Thoughts

I don't really know the jist of this group/band/project (the last time I referred to a pre-fab act as a project, I got muscled around by a Bboard bully...so I'll call them an act this time and hope not to get hurt). I just DL'd a sample after catching the buzz of this "act". Any thoughts on them?

On first listen I thought they were rubbish. "Street Gang" has grown on me, but there's nothing "brutal" about their sound at all. It's really quite weedy.

OK so is the rest of the album as good as "Don't Be Scared"? THIS IS GREAT. It has totally made my week. Every single one of my friends would like this. I looked at that other thread on these guys, and they kind of look like pirates, which is awesome.

Then I googled for "don't be scared" and "a.r.e. weapons" and turned up somebody's journal site quoting lyrics from a Papa Roach song. ha ha ha

Saw them last night in Detroit. Poor A.R.E. Weapons, they didn't even stand a chance after openers Pelican, Nautical Almanac and Wolf Eyes played before them. I almost wonder if the booker set up this line-up intentionally for them to fail. It didn't help that they weren't any good at all...

"Hey World" is as good as "Don't Be Scared" Daria - but nothing else is. But everything else is OK to very good.

I've just listened to "Don't Be Scared" over twenty times in a row, no joke. You know, this sounds to me like Pop Will Eat Itself mixed with Skinny Puppy plus somebody from the Thrill Kill Kult. Forget Suicide, those keyboards are straight from Too Dark Park.
