I've still yet to hear anything by the shags. Not sure what I'm waiting for lol.

I like Trout Mask Replica better because it has better songs and musicianship.

TMR is deliberately 'like that', whereas the Shaggs is a band who cannot play ... but don't (along with their dad) realise it. ...if that makes any difference. If asked to choose, I'd say TMR is far more listenable - two Shaggs' songs in one go is enough for anybody imo.

heard Philosophy o' the World for the first time recently and couldn't make it through one song. and I've been into Capt. B since the 70s so go figure. Pops Shagg sounds like a fucking sadist.

The Shaggs could so play. The songs have chord progressions and the lead guitarist doubles all of those melodies. And the drummer lays down some BEATS.

Philosophy of the World is nowhere near as good an album as Trout Mask Replica, but it is very good. Every song has a nice character.

For me, Philosophy > TMR any day of the week...

I've never liked 'Trout Mask Replica,' for some reason--much prefer 'Bat Chain Puller' and 'Radar Station,' even 'Safe as Milk'.

I'd definitely take the Shaggs over 'TMR'--but the Shaggs made sense to me from moment one.

Pops Shagg sounds like a fucking sadist.

capt. beefy could be quite the taskmaster himself from what i've read.

this comparison is silly. Tim's defense of Shaggs is otm though
