I just saw a list that has Pipeline by the Chantays as the second greatest instrumental of all time (after Link Wray's 'Rumble'). I can't think how it goes, but I'm sure I know it..... so how does it sound???

Is that a drum roll at the start??

Mestema (davidcorp), Friday, 6 January 2006 13:49 (eighteen years ago) link

No, a run down the neck of the guitar. (Top i.e. deepest string)

Is this bass or drums? It looks like Radar Love.

The bassline is like: BOME-pa-bome-pa, BOME-pa-bome-pa, etc. over and over.

Oh, and the guitars all have that standard surfy-reverb sound.

Yes.

Bang bang rock and roll.

(Finding a 30-second sound clip would be remarkably easy, of course. But where's the fun in that?)

I guessed surfy.

Does the initial bit cover all instruments?? MORE!

eight years pass...

Do people nowadays still do that? Using onomatopoeia to identify songs?

Also I love the electric piano sound on Pipeline. Is that a Wurlitzer?
