it's floatin around out there...
in all it's binary glory.
i've had the pleasure of listening and...i like it.
no suprise, tho. i like the last one, despite the calls of 'novelty act', which may stand up in court, but that doesn't take away from the fact that it's damn fine dumb-dancin music!

anyone else care to ponder the Devil?

Like the title.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 15:58 (eighteen years ago) link

I didn't hear the last album, but I really like this one. It basically sounds like Lullabies To Paralyze reduced to its most bubblegum elements. And my promo copy just says "Death By Sexy."

Zwan (miccio), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 16:20 (eighteen years ago) link

The 1st album was awful.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 16:23 (eighteen years ago) link

I saw the videos from it online and they never really grabbed me. I'm gonna revisit, but I think these songs might be shorter or something, cuz they resonated on contact. That might also be because I love Lullabies To Paralyze, though.

Zwan (miccio), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 16:26 (eighteen years ago) link

they can take their cute name and shove it up their ass - if they'd called themselves "Poco of Crunk" it'd be about as irritating to me

Thomas Tallis (Tommy), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 16:29 (eighteen years ago) link

oh boo hoo

Zwan (miccio), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 16:32 (eighteen years ago) link

i'm scared of it. everything dude has done since rated r has been progressively worse. and i'm scared of his friend the funny singer. is it as bad as the darkness?

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 16:34 (eighteen years ago) link

yeah there's also that I don't feel Josh Homme at all

Thomas Tallis (Tommy), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 16:46 (eighteen years ago) link

and it ain't a "boo hoo," it's more of a "Oh, 'eagles of death metal'? fuckin', whatever, fratboy bitch."

I love the first album. Singer's got a fun voice.

You should be scared. Not only is it pitched by Girlie, they'll get a bunch of charity tours, starting with being on with The Strokes.

first album was surprisingly very good. "Speaking in Tongues" is a great track

Oh, 'eagles of death metal'? fuckin', whatever, fratboy bitch."
????does not compute!! i've NEVER met a frat boy who even knew about the EoDM...

i don't get how people say it was so 'awful'...sounds like if JH's name wasn't attached people would be jumping around and proclaiming the EoDM to be 2nd coming or something...

personally, SfTD was JH's highwater mark for me, LtP was one of the worst things of last year...
EoDM w/ the Strokes????????!

i'm speechless...no, wait...fuck that! the Strokes don't deserve to have such a good opener!!!

glad to see that J-Devil can incite some division amongst the ranks.

eedd, Wednesday, 1 February 2006 18:21 (eighteen years ago) link

SFTD and the 1st album is my Qotsa highpoint. But i liked LtP too. EoDM is the only Homme related album i've never liked.
Not heard the new one yet.

I liked the first EODM as well, just good fun music.. I seem to remember reading it was recorded in the space of about a week, can anyone remember? It was a much more enjoyable album than Lullabies to Paralyse for me.

"There isn't anything under the sun that's new, so you can't really invent anything yourself," continued Hughes, who also credits his mustache with influencing the band's direction. "I'd rather be compared to someone I love than try to make something different. I just want to make Little Richard proud. And I don't think that's a bad goal. Sometimes you get a bunch of these tough-guy rocker bands who're pretending they've invented something, and it just turns into a giant boy party with a bunch of sweating dudes crammed into a little rock space bobbing up and down. That's not fun and sexy. Hopefully people will remember the ladies are what rock and roll is all about."

The Devil can do no wrong.

"We didn't come here to save whales. We came here to make a little money — and save whales, too, if we can," he said, which explains how the band's songs have ended up in Budweiser and Payless ads. "This ain't no Bible study. It's rock and roll. And [when Death by Sexy hits stores], I am expecting riches beyond my wildest dreams and bikini girls every night, because it's sex rock and I made it for ladies everywhere."

I liked the immediacy of the first recording quite a bit and found that only about half of this record shared in such glorious simplicity of songcraft. The rest of the disc meandered sounding like something the Violent Femmes might have done, but with the quirkiness sounding forced to these ears.

i'm with you on that...LtP leaves me pretty 'meh'd out. it's sad when the import version's by far preferable (in large part due to the cover of "Precious and Grace!".
that said, this new EoDM has me hooked. it's some wonderful spring/summer music!
nothing to think about, just enjoy. maybe that's what people don't like about them (ie- the 'novelty act'), it's nothing to think about just dumb fun.
but, honestly, don't we all need some dumb fun as sung by Ned Flanders Gone Wrong?!!?
well, maybe not all, but I DO!

i want Dessert Sessions, please. w/ coffee.

Operating Thetan III (monster mash), Saturday, 14 November 2015 00:18 (eight years ago) link

The guy contributed to conspiracy theory nonsense. I got into a brief discussion with someone who swears that six security guards called out because they knew it was coming.

I am sorry he went through what he did, but contributing to the delusional fiction of conspiracy theorists is not something I forgive very easily.

There are people who seriously believe things like he said and they use his words as "evidence" for that belief.

Reads to me like Jesse is not dealing well with this at all, no matter what he claims, and is in retreating even further into the far-right nutcase/paranoia bullshit he was already suffering from. The piece of shit, as always, is McInnes. I feel bad for the club's employees and owners, and for the other bandmembers who are, for a second time, going to have to clean up after Jesse. Awful situation when someone is losing their mind in public.

jaywbabcock, Sunday, 15 May 2016 02:18 (seven years ago) link

Why not take him at his word about what he saw? Nothing that outlandish said there.

flappy bird, Sunday, 15 May 2016 03:09 (seven years ago) link

When the police or whoever is doing the investigating corroborate what he's saying about 'inside job' and so forth, I will take Jesse at whatever his current word is (since it changes, as we've seen). But until then, this account is, for me, something like trauma-induced motivated reasoning.

A day after, at the stadium, Muslims booed the moment of silence and we barely heard about it in the press. I saw Muslims celebrating in the street during the attack. I saw it with my own eyes. In real time! How did they know what was going on? There must have been coordination.

nakhchivan, Sunday, 15 May 2016 13:19 (seven years ago) link

You never see bad guys in movies who are Arab terrorists. It’s always Germans or French…

Or conservative Christian rednecks. They’re apparently what’s wrong with everything in the world now, including global warming. What about the other ice age we went through? There were no Christian Republicans back then. What caused that meltdown?

The other problem with that is, when you get rid of these Christian rednecks, you create a vacuum and it gets filled with people way worse. It gets filled with Islam. You end up replacing evangelism with sharia law.

Politicians behave better when they know people are watching. We behave better when we believe Jesus is watching us.

These atheists tell us we don’t need religion, yet everyone seems to be creating flimsy substitutes to replace it. Rehab is just Lent. Meditation is just Latin Mass. Seeing a therapist is just talking to your priest.

And the thing about the Bible is it’s written down. A therapist can change his diagnosis just like that and there’s no way of calling him out on it.

Jesse Hughes: I saw fear fall like a blanket on the whole crowd and they fell like wheat in the wind—the way you would before a god. I was totally alert from the very beginning. The first thing I needed to do was find my girl. Fear took a backseat and “where’s my girl?” took over.

Your post inspired me to comment on the Tweet from Lanegan saying as much. Dave doesn't have a Twitter I could find but I did tag the studio. Which then liked it. So... Maybe a conversation has or will take place.

Cheers, Mark. It would be nice if Dave Catching had a word or three with Jesse. I don't know either of them personally but as far as I can tell, Dave doesn't seem like the type who would agree with Jesse here and is in a good place to tell him as well. cc: @ranchodelaluna

three years pass...

Boy looking up at Mark Lanegan's tweet there feels a bit chilling. The more so because according to this Jesse wouldn't have known about his passing because...

“The love of my life is going to die.” Eagles of Death Metal's Tuesday Cross has been in a coma for more than six weeks, and her frontman fiancé Jesse Hughes is alleging he's been blocked from seeing or communicating with her. https://t.co/qMbJCVU9OX

— billboard (@billboard) March 11, 2022

Ned Raggett, Friday, 11 March 2022 04:55 (two years ago) link

Actually change that, read it totally wrong -- I thought HE was in the coma.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 11 March 2022 04:55 (two years ago) link

Also, since I was wondering:

Although the hospital’s response does not indicate this, Hughes says Cross also tested positive for COVID, and he was told that hospital visits from family and friends were not permitted because of the risk of spreading the virus.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 11 March 2022 04:57 (two years ago) link

On the afternoon of Jan. 23, Hughes says he and Cross had cuddled on the couch in their bungalow-style home in LA’s Atwater Village as she puffed a few times on the inhaler she used to treat her asthma. She was exhausted from graffiti tagging the past few nights, and the spray-paint vapor had given her a slight cough.

Cross was “in full cardiac arrest” when ER doctors got to her and that Hughes “reported the patient had recently been smoking crack or meth.” Hughes claims that he didn’t know if she was on drugs but wanted to be safe.

in June 2021, Cross signed a document giving him power of attorney over her health care after a similar incident landed her in Glendale Memorial.

Add all that to COVID diagnosis (and assuming that she is/was as anti-vax as Jessie), this seems like a tragic, but probably avoidable outcome. I just feel bad for any of her friends and loved ones who are trying to navigate this while simultaneously having to deal with Jesse Hughes - The Human Drama Bomb.
