I guess he's from Scotland...rapper...looks like some wierd raver/redneck....signed to Shady/Aftermath I guess...anyway, Salon had something on him and I went to his site and downloaded a mixtape he made....started off with a hip hop cover of Dylan's "Subterranean Homesick Blues" now it's a remix of Method Man rapping over "You Don't Know How It Feels" by Tom Petty.

anyway, dunno if I like this but it's....something....any UK folx heard of this dude?

He's from Wales and used to be Adam Alphabet of playlouder.com.

Also used to be in Crack Village, who are the current unsigned band on the playlist on the Virgin Xtreme online/DAB station.

yeah .. he's working it hard. a lot of people are going to hate him, but he makes me smile. love his animation style as well, though i am somewhat biassed.

there are a couple of interviews are posted @ ireallylovemusic. the latest single Clones was great stuff, easily the best thing so far with its Alice Cooper samples, makes me really look forward to the album.

oh, and he's a massive Carter USM fan ..

He has a song called "living in the future" about how cool it is to download mp3s over adsl and watch hostages being killed on live internet video... I don't know if it's tongue in cheek or not but either way it's neither funny nor cool and it sounded dated the moment I heard it.

I think there's a clue in the title. Also it is funny and cool.

Holy shit, Akira the Don signed to Shady? Confirmation plz?

"Drinking Song" was pretty awesome off that EP he dropped a couple of years back.

Whatever happened to Jon the Whiteboy Rapper, anyway? Did that promotional push go to Lady Sovereign instead or something?

He's been on Interscope for at least a year now, just without actually doing anything. No-one seems to believe it but it's up on the website and junk. I don't like him very much. I just got the EP from Jamie T in the post which may, concievably, form part of an answer to your other question. I don't like this very much either

He's mentioned in Independant Music (the Independant's new, um, independant music supplement) today.

re the album .. word is that as well as the actual album (which is now finished), he is making cartoons for each track, i guess for a DVD extra. though Drinking Song wont be on that, which is a real shame, cos while the song though does become annoying, my brief appearance in the video makes it rather special for me.

suspect he will become a lot more prominent over the coming months. Interscope aint going to let this one slip by .. (apparently - its a 6 album deal !)

I read in, ahem, The Fly that Lily Allen used to be in Crack Village. I have never seen anything anywhere else to back this up. Did she?

he did a track on a brave captain ep. it was okay, although sadly GLC have kind of ruined the hopes of any welsh rapper being taken seriously.

His Welshness is pretty spurious, I think he grew up there and moved away when he was 15 or something

five years pass...

well, the interscope thing fell apart due to 'thanks for all the aids'.
the debut album bombed.
he made a rather good second one self funded with stephen hague.
and now its all over.
r.i.p akira the don.
not sure re the midnitemen thing with wade crescent.
the new mixtape is fine and dandy, but it aint anything special.
however, wade does have the connections, so who knows, maybe this one will hit paydirt for them.

He did some lame song with Gruff Rhys that I listened to once, and I'm a pretty big Gruff Rhys apologist that usually listens to anything he does at least two dozen times.
