Obligatory Typos in title not meant as insult, just typos resulting from typing in tiny boxes.

I'm still sitting on the fence, but I just might go.

Redd Harvest (Ken L), Thursday, 9 February 2006 01:50 (eighteen years ago) link

Hey, I stopped by this. I did not see any Tracer and I wouldn't know Redd if he derived my sequent.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 9 February 2006 18:54 (eighteen years ago) link

Redd Harvest (Ken L), Thursday, 9 February 2006 21:54 (eighteen years ago) link

In any case, if I go to another one in a few weeks I'll revive this thread.

MR FINE WINE @ BOTANICA
Weekly-Wednesdays
Mr. Fine Wine has been spinning killer soul, funk, and R&B 45s in this comfortably threadbare, low-key bar since 1996.
47 East Houston Street between Mulberry and Mott, Manhattan

Is he also on WFMU? I think I heard him there playing lotsa cool obscure soul.

yep

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Friday, 10 February 2006 21:24 (eighteen years ago) link

Ok dammit you should have called to tell me you were doing this Mr. Paul Eater. I was flush both with indignation at American Idol and from Sci-Fi Soul's "poor man's heroin" drink and had nowhere to go!

No, just heard the radio shows. To my lasting shame. You know who else is great though, who I have been in the same room with? Lynne K. She is phenomenal. And I'm almost certain that SHE has been in the same room with Mr Finewine. So..

Thinking about going. But also considering El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico at the Howard. Theoretically could do both since the El Gran Combo gig is an early one (with a separate admission show there at 11)

Mission accomplished. Good thing I remembered your (James Redd) real first name and the part of the town where you live. At that point he recognized your name, and says hello speaking fondly of you (awwww). As the El Gran Combo gig was an earlier one (and a great one if you like salsa), the gf and I headed over to hear DJ Fine Wine and DJ Nitekrawler(the DC dj host). Only song I recognized was Nitekrawler playing Etta James "Tell Mama." Fine Wine played tons of unknown to me vinyl featuring women soul singers.

That's How Strong My Dub Is (James Redd and the Blecchs), Wednesday, 11 June 2014 00:08 (nine years ago) link

Wow, amazing run - and the show still sounds fresh every time I tune in.
And I'll take this opportunity to stan for the double albums he compiled for Vampi-Soul, "Scratch That Itch" and "Teach Me How To Monkey" (haven't heard the third one yet). Really appreciate that they're pressed on 45 RPM heavy LP's so they sound nice and fat, unlike a lot of other comps of similar material - and they include a lot of stuff you'd have to drop double digits to score as OG 45's. If you're even vaguely into early 60's soul, or want some danceable stuff that's not overplayed for when you DJ, you can't lose with these.
