Team Dresch - Personal Best lineup reforms, plays shows!

While flipping through the Voice last night I noticed a nondescript entry in Southpaw's upcoming show listings: 5/31 - Team Dresch. After a little googling, lo and behold, the lineup of Donna, Kaia, Jody, and Marci have reformed and are playing a handful of shows. Talk about flying under the radar.

If you don't know why this is a big deal, get thee one Personal Best. Some people can't seem to get past their queercore politics, but hey, it was only the best punk record of the 90s, maybe even the best, period.

Pretty cool. Am I the only person who thinks Kaia's solo stuff is the bee's knees?

I don't have enough of Kaia's solo stuff, what I've heard is quite good. I once saw The Butchies play in somebody's garage in Mufreesboro TN - intense.

Personal Best was one of my favorite albums of the 90's. We're definitely going to the Portland show.

As much as I like Kaia + The Butchies (esp. the first Butchies, Are We Not Femme?), Team Dresch was operating on a whole other level. For what they did on Personal Best I put 'em in a category with Bad Brains + Minor Threat as far as social protest + tuneful guitar brutality goes. They had a personal dynamic like a hand grenade and I wouldn't be surprised if they can still rock the house.

(is anybody worried about Colonel Poo?)

I never got around to actually grabbing Personal Best but there was a long period wherein "She's Amazing" was some sort of mixtape staple/theme song/etc, whatever. For that alone (and the rest of the record can compete based on the times I heard it) this is wonderful news. Bravo!

I loved them in high school. I'm excited to see them at Southpaw.

I loved them in high school. I don't really care now.

I...

was overcome with shock.

Or maybe I forgot about html and less than signs. Oops.

What I meant to say was I love Personal Best and I'm really happy this is happening but I was bemoaning that it's extremely unlikely they'll come and play the UK, cos AFAIK no-one likes them here. I could be wrong, of course.

Thanks for the concern though ;)

I got a hummer from a punk rock chick with a mohawk in high school because I said "Oh, Team Dresch, they're pretty cool" when she put a tape on.
Maybe I should buy one of their albums...

i saw their show at homo-a-gogo in olympia,wa two summers ago. they hadn't played together in 10 years and they fuckin rocked the festival. it was one of the best shows i've ever seen (+ilovethem) but seriously, check them out before you miss your chance. you will not regret it.

Mmmm.

I'd love to see this lineup if they were playing in the Bay Area. A few years back Donna opened for the Butchies with her band Dresch vs Davies. Donna also played along with the Butchies for a few songs. There is amazing creative energy when Kaia and Donna get together.

ten years pass...

Seeing these guys on 1/28 in Portland. Super stoked.
