TLC: "Waterfalls" vs. Atlantic Ocean: "Waterfall"

Both singles came out in the mid-nineties, both have have a sprinkly - dare I say "oceanic" sound - but the difference is that the other is a contemplation on the dangers of excess, whereas the other has a more utopian tinge. For TLC "waterfall" is a symbol of too much too soon, whereas for Atlantic Ocean it is a dream within our reach.

So which is your favourite? I love love love "Waterfalls", but I have to choose "Waterfall" simply for nostalgia reasons, there's more memories tied to that tune. Plus the dolphins in the video.

'waterfalls' - not to slate 'waterfall' by any means, it's t'riff as well, but 'waterfalls' is one of the best songs ever recorded by anyone ever. it would win against everything.

"Waterfalls" is a fine, fine single (and my 18th favourite of 1995, it says here) - but my love for "Waterfall" (2nd favourite of 1994, it says here) stretches beyond all reason.

Back when it came out, that little almost-off-time baduhduh thing in the beat to "Waterfalls" used to piss me off, for like the first six months it was out. Then one day it just kinda...made sense all of a sudden. It was a total like landmark moment for teenage me.

I presume you ommitted The Stone Roses' Waterfall to avoid unbalancing this thread so much it capsizes?

I don't actually like Waterfalls that much really, so Atlantic Ocean win. Also it was just absolutely fucking glorious then and I haven't heard it for at least five years and now REALLY WANT TO.

I'd go with TLC. Brilliant song. The Atlantic Ocean song is too chintzy.
