aka how do you search for this topic aka the last hurrah of the list threads in Oct.

I'm thinking along the lines of lush and detailed shit like Loveless, music that really benefits from the widescreen treatment. Not necessarily Albums that tend(ed) to be played in Hi-Fi-shops to impress the customers , just stuff that you get more enjoyment out of when you get definition and detail.

Off teh dome:

Loveless--mbv, natch
Smile--brian wilson
Selected Ambient Works Vol. 1--aphex twin
The Chronic--muthafuckin d.r.e.
Mezzanine--Massive Attack
Scientist Rids the World of the Evil Curse of the Vampires
Time Out of Mind--Dylan
Revolver--Beatles
The Blueprint--Hov
In Sides--Orbital

Well, I have yet to invest in a surround set, but whenever I do I do have a bunch of Depeche Mode and Talking Heads albums that I am looking forward to listening to.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 23:34 (nineteen years ago)

Spiritualized - Ladies & Gents... is my choice head-fi drug at the moment. I'll think of another nine in a bit.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 1 November 2006 10:19 (nineteen years ago)

Cornelius - Point

I.M. From Hollywood (i_m_from_hollywood), Wednesday, 1 November 2006 21:51 (nineteen years ago)

Scott Walker "Tilt" or "The Drift"-- both reap audiophile benefits, being completely un-compressed dynamic recordings...

gekoppel (Gekoppel), Wednesday, 1 November 2006 22:26 (nineteen years ago)

Seal's first album. A beautiful Trevor Horn moment.

Myke. (Myke Weiskopf), Wednesday, 1 November 2006 23:51 (nineteen years ago)

Anything by Vladislav Delay, Four Quarters works wonders. Pan Sonic is wonderful on a good system as well.

Jena (JenaP), Wednesday, 1 November 2006 23:56 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah everything I was gonna say has alreaey been said. "Ladies and Gentlemen...", "Loveless", "SAW 85-92"...

What about "OK Computer"? "OK Computer" for sure. Maybe some Portishead. It'd be fun to throw some NIN on there too.

S- (sgh), Friday, 3 November 2006 01:37 (nineteen years ago)

I just put on Monk's Misterioso and Ellington/Mingus/Roach's Money Jungle. They both sound fucking amazing.

Hoosteen (Hoosteen), Friday, 3 November 2006 05:16 (nineteen years ago)

I just bought some Shure E4cs, which has brought renewed interest in Atomizer and the Field Music LP.

Shawnoftheshed (xtrawidth), Friday, 3 November 2006 15:19 (nineteen years ago)

Ellen Alien Thrills
Tuxedomoon Cabin in the Sky

is anyone anticipating the new Baaderonixx? (baaderonixx), Friday, 3 November 2006 15:58 (nineteen years ago)

Man w/that Monk record it was just like "So that's what a soundstage is!"

I threw on Silent Shout just now and was hearing frequencies I had no fucking clue existed. The title track sounds faster (?!), that arpeggiator's hitting notes I totally hadn't heard...just nuts.

I HAVE OWNED LOVELESS FOR 5 YEARS AND I JUST REALIZED THERE ARE DRUMS ON "TO HERE KNOWS WHEN." WHAT THE FUCK.

Hoosteen (Hoosteen), Friday, 3 November 2006 16:03 (nineteen years ago)

Any Jandek.

mike a (mike a), Friday, 3 November 2006 20:20 (nineteen years ago)

The Blue Note RVG discs usually have amazing detail. Two random picks: Kenny Burrell "Midnight Blue" (laid back grooves with guitar and conga); Kenny Dorham "Una Mas" (sophisticated hard bop from 1963 with Herbie Hancock, Tony Williams, and Joe Henderson)

todd (todd), Friday, 3 November 2006 23:29 (nineteen years ago)

Predictably, everything I've been directed toward by Italian Symphonic Rock - Is This What Heaven Sounds Like? sounds incredible.

Hoosteen (Hoosteen), Sunday, 5 November 2006 19:24 (nineteen years ago)

three years pass...

I never did think of those other 9.

exploding angel vagina (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 17 November 2009 22:13 (sixteen years ago)

Right, let's go.

Orbital - Snivilisation (for the precision of the layered bleeps and the rain-to-bassline transition in I Wish I Had Duck Feet)
Patrick Wolf - The Bachelor (for the drum & string timbres, plus vocals and electronics)
Aphex Twin - Come To Daddy (specifically Flim & Bucephelous Bouncing Ball)
That Mark Hollis solo album (for the drums and room ambience)
Califone - Roomsound (cos it just all sounds awesome)

More later.

exploding angel vagina (Scik Mouthy), Wednesday, 18 November 2009 10:08 (sixteen years ago)

Probably worth its own thread, but have there ever been any good binaural (dummy head) music recordings, for headphone use? Pearl Jam doesn't count, nor do sfx gimmicks like the virtual haircut. There are plenty of stereo mic direct to tape recordings (the most famous outside of classical perhaps being The Trinity Sessions (which would be one of my recs for this thread).

Biodegradable (Derelict), Wednesday, 18 November 2009 12:16 (sixteen years ago)

cosign on the Mark Hollis album

also, Spiritualized - Lazer Guided Melodies

merked, Wednesday, 18 November 2009 14:01 (sixteen years ago)

The Hard Day's Night remaster is awesome for room ambience too.

exploding angel vagina (Scik Mouthy), Wednesday, 18 November 2009 14:43 (sixteen years ago)

scott seward, Wednesday, 18 November 2009 16:00 (sixteen years ago)

ogmor, Wednesday, 18 November 2009 16:09 (sixteen years ago)

if you like experimental sound/music and amazing sonics i can't recommend this enough:

http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/vigrouxbourne

(can't vouch for download/mp3 quality. i only listen to the cd. the album is on the D'Autres Cordes label, and everything i've heard on the label is similarly high quality sound-wise)

scott seward, Wednesday, 18 November 2009 16:10 (sixteen years ago)

Grace Jones - don't cry - its only the rhythm
DynamixII - machine planet
The Super Stocks - oceanside
