Denice Williams: "Let's Hear It For The Boy" - What kind of drum machine?

Basically, the question is mainly contained in the thread title. What kind of drum machine did they use, did anyone know?

This VST thing has suddenly made me way more interested in facts about vintage synths and drum machines, and this really puzzles me as the drums doesn't really sounds like anything else. That is, they sound more like Simmons electronic drums than a Roland or Linn drum computer. But then, they sound very much like a computer too, rather than live drums.

So you were startrekman all along!

OK. Seems it was a Linn. Found the info here:

Apparently the song was all made using a Linndrum and a Polymoog, so.

a defining song from my childhood, like most of the footloose, beverly hills cop, ghostbusters, top gun and cocktail soundtracks

Not too keen on the song, it's mainly the drum machine sounds I love. One of my all-time favourite drum machine sequences.

Despite what my excellent friend writes here, he's wrong: one of the sweetest songs ever written and sung.

Maybe he's no Romeo, but he's my loving one-man show....

I hate that I just realized this song is completely awful.

"Completely awful" may have been a bridge too far. Sort of cringey is more accurate.

this thing defines sweetness; it's a perfect high school crush anthem

This hurts me, fellas. I've happily listened to this song for thirty years, but then today it just struck me as kind of trite and poorly done. *shrug*
