Dunno. If I didn't like the first one, will I like the new one?

Pye Poudre, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 17:53 (seventeen years ago) link

possibly.

this new album is a pretty big departure from their old stuff. there's still definitely a skeletal post-rock structure to it, but the album has a much more psych-drone-folk vibe to it. one of their older albums was recorded in a farmhouse, but this time it sounds like it was recorded in a farmhouse in a, y'know, skygreen leopards type of way. although i'm not exactly sure to what extent this happened, but apparently akron/family had something to do with this album! (i'd say this is the best thing they've touched too). a few songs even have some singing in them!

i haven't completely decided how i feel about this new path.

Oooh, that makes me more interested. I like their stuff in general, but they were beginning to fall into that category where I didn't quite see the need to own any more of it. (Not sure why I plunked down $13 on that new High Llamas album.)

it's really exceptional - my favourite by them i think. definitely more of a warm pastoral (psych) folk vibe than the earlier post-rock seriousness

i'm still a big fan of & yet & yet but i really didn't take to the last one.

s1ocki, Thursday, 1 March 2007 15:04 (seventeen years ago) link

will i like this? i guess i'm asking?

(also NOT a fan of the title)

i have no idea what your music taste is like s1ocky, but if it wasn't clear from my post: this is a very good album.

The title reminds me of that Cardigans song, "I Need Some Fine Wine and You, You Need to Be Nicer."

YES

I'm pretty much burnt out on post-rock but it's good to hear new stuff, it's been far too long.

New songs are great.

Ah yeah! I was really disappointed in Other Truths, but this sounds great!

Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 9 March 2017 18:36 (seven years ago) link

Man this band still really turns me off.

Jordan, have you heard & Yet & Yet?

Kinda weird hearing post-rock in the present day tbh

Carlotta's Portrait (Ross), Thursday, 9 March 2017 18:39 (seven years ago) link

time to bring it back

akm, Thursday, 9 March 2017 19:13 (seven years ago) link

DMST were always underrated and overshadowed by everything else that came out at that time.

akm, Thursday, 9 March 2017 19:14 (seven years ago) link

i forgot about them! this is sweet

xp otm

flappy bird, Thursday, 9 March 2017 19:14 (seven years ago) link

of all the bands of that ilk they are the ones I return to the most

ogmor, Friday, 10 March 2017 15:35 (seven years ago) link

two months pass...

Available to hear in full since yesterday:

I really love it. I did like their last one but the more pessimistic feeling didn't suit them as much, this slots in nicely with Winter Hymn/History in Rust etc.
