Buy buy buy!
Search:You Think Its Like This But Its Really Like This and Parts of Human Desire.
She put two records out on K, has a good ep on Yo Yo and was pushing a tape around that was good. She doesnt really have that much out yet to search/destroy.

I am curious to hear her, a friend last nite described it at 'a folky bjork'??

Search: "Cold Cold Water", the first track of the new LP, 'Advisory Committee', is the best fucking song in the world. Overblown orchestral bombast. Her earlier stuff is good too.

Destroy: The rest of the Advisory Committee sucks balls.

Cold Cold Water is indeed one of the best songs Phil Spector never had a hand in. Im amazed that they managed to keep her voice above all the musical craziness in the background. I do need to listen to the album more but Im leaning very far away from calling it goose poop.
Im wondering how this album fits into relation with The Glow Part 2. I would love to know what relation Phil had upon it and where they find all the musicians to play on their albums in Olympia.

Yeah that remix album's pretty sweet.

she's gone all contact lenses on us

Can't get enough of "Cold Cold Water," including both versions on the EP. "C'mon Miracle" is pretty good, too.

Does she come to Europe? I'm up for a visit to Belgium or Ireland. Preferably the former, as it is much much cheaper

The disco-ey version of "gone are all the days" that she's been playing live is awesome:

The (a)spera songs really awesome live with a full band. And so did "Light The Match."

loved a lot of "C'mon Miracle" especially the cover art/title combo, so great. she is great. I think she could make a real masterpiece of an album if she wanted to but imo a big part of the Pacific NW scene outside of Seattle is resistance to attempting that sort of "this is what you suspected I'm capable of" record. imo both Elvrum & Mirah are big participants in this resistance

a full circle lol (J0hn D.), Saturday, 10 October 2009 06:51 (fourteen years ago) link

I dunno, I think (a)spera moves closer to that idea of "what she is truly capable of." It's definitely more "mature" (in a good way) than her previous records and the instrumentation/arrangements are more ornate and well-crafted. Seeing her live last night I was struck by how the diversity in her oeuvre continues to grow.

Dave: tell Mirah to record that and put it on a 7 inch or something!

Michael F Gill, Saturday, 10 October 2009 16:06 (fourteen years ago) link

(a)spera was DEFINITELY a move toward Making A Great Album compared to her last couple, which really just felt like collections of (not-very-good) songs. loved the (a)spiration on it.

sean gramophone, Saturday, 10 October 2009 19:31 (fourteen years ago) link

I view Aspera as the official follow-up to C'mon Miracle. She just happens to do a lot of interim on-the-side albums in between (like the b-sides collection and the "Share this place" song cycle about insects.)

New album out in May! The tracks on her soundcloud (http://soundcloud.com/mirahmusic) sound good/lush, definitely picking up where Aspera left off.

a record she made a couple of years ago that i can't remember the name of & which it would be stubborn to describe without reference to verbose newsom-wave music of the same era was really nice, i thought, the kind of best-work that sits in the shadow for not adhering to & exercising nuance not contained in earlier poppier work

i hope the new one's nice
i wonder if tjo's playing on it

Maybe I should revisit (a)spera, because I'm digging the new one so far (two tracks in).

She has so much potential but no signs of a “classic album” to be remember by, maybe a compilation album could do her justice, she releases at least one or two brilliant and I mean BRILLIANT cuts per record, shame the rest is so forgettable. COLD COLD WATER and NOBODY HAS TO STAY and LA FAMILIA are such great songs. I remember she was the sort of artist that made indie music seem so exciting for me in the 00’s.

wrong sorry. advisory committee is classic

there's definitely more than 2 good cuts on that record.
