The part when the intro finishes, and the tune kicks in!

It's hard for me to be enthusiastic about this song when I've heard Neu!
I'd pick "exploded head movie" over "jenny ondioline" anytime. I like the phasing.

Trip Maker, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 15:21 (sixteen years ago) link

this thread is not about neu!

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 15:36 (sixteen years ago) link

Tracer, just vote for the first minute, because that's where the big DRONE gives way to the tune that Mark G and I love so much.

"Look at turkey the lift home and struggle"

loll.

I'm going to have to check out that 9th minute!

This EP is the best record ever made, bar none.

Mister Craig, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 21:49 (sixteen years ago) link

is the song on the ep the same length as the LP?

dan selzer, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 22:02 (sixteen years ago) link

seven years pass...

Need more songs like this... (since this is the best song ever) something that inhabits the Neu! vibe but does something new with it. A lot of the new school kraut groups I've heard (well, Follakzoid) are okay but never found anything close to this

global tetrahedron, Tuesday, 26 May 2015 20:05 (eight years ago) link

Audionom don't add vocals to the Neu! vibe in quite the same way, but they've done tons of great stuff. Here's a longish example

https://open.spotify.com/track/5PgJgKwvJKMixhOmbS1eSt

though often they're more concise

That "Revlis" is really good, but more rawk than kraut.

ten months pass...

After scouring the webz for ~3.2 minutes, this (tho incomplete, see ?s) is the most accurate stab at lyrics I've found:

Life on Earth is a bloody hazard it's a fact
As in the city the republic was collapsing away
I think the brilliant crust's hiding sad realities to come
And as a decisive matter of being armed, haven't we lost?

I don't care if the fascists have to win
I don't care democracy's being fucked
I don't care socialism's full of sin
The unbeatable system engenders rot

That what is exciting
It's the challenge, it's stimulation
But the tensions have to be created, there's no doubt

The absence of profounder transformation in the country
Make their hopes turn sour if our dreams are let down in a hurry
Obviously once more we could be culturing (?)
A habit of love or don't you get to revolutionary

I don't care if the fascists have to win
I don't care democracy's being fucked
I don't care socialism's full of sin
The illegitimate system, so corrupt

That what is exciting
It's the challenge, it's stimulation
But the tensions have to be created there's no doubt

Life on Earth is a bloody hazard it's a fact
Oppressive malady ..... (?)
The horrors of the war were to be repeated anyway
It was like taking candy from a baby

.

We got to keep the lift, hope, and struggle
Where is the lift, the hope, and the struggle?
Give me the strength the lift, hope, and struggle

Mmmm that's weird I had no idea the actual lyrics were hard to find. Everybody seems to disagree on certain sections. Here's one:

It seems many people have the second verse wrong since it's sung half in english/half in french, or at least that's what I'm hearing... I think I can distinguish 'allors' and 'peut-être".

Jenny Ondioleeene (Leee), Monday, 4 April 2016 01:53 (eight years ago) link

^^That is probably the least accurate version that I've seen to date.

I have to admit I "cheated" as I have access to the demo where the vox are much more clearer and distinct than both the album or single versions*.

Laetitia was apparently dissatisfied with the album performance so she re-recorded the vox for the single release, but both seem buried compared to the demo.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Monday, 4 April 2016 03:38 (eight years ago) link

Ah, the demo is online. Take a listen here:

PS: guitarists, you can hear the tuning clearly at the beginning: EAEABE

Time stamp isn't working for this btw, Jenny O starts at 15m38s.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Monday, 4 April 2016 07:30 (eight years ago) link

Cool demo. So... from what I can hear these are partially the lyrics and there's no french in there as I thought... they're still hard to make out completely and some of this is probably wrong:

Life on Earth is a bloody hazard it's a fact
As in the city the republic was collapsing away
I think (?) cross my inside realities to come
And as a decisive matter (?) lost

I don't care if the fascists have to win
I don't care democracy's being fucked
I don't care socialism's full of sin
the (unbeatable?) system being sucked

The world is exciting
It's the challenge. It's the new nation.
The potential have to be created (?)

The absence of profound transformation in the country
Make their hopes turn sour (?) let down in a hurry
Obviously once more it could be (?)
(?) don't you get to (?) revolutionary

I don't care if the fascists have to win
I don't care democracy's being fucked
I don't care socialism's full of sin
the (unbeatable?) system being sucked

The world is exciting
It's the challenge. It's the new nation.
The potential have to be created (?)

Life on Earth is a bloody hazard it's a fact
Oppressive (?)
The horrors of the war were to be repeated anyway
It was like taking candy from a baby

I think genius has the actual lyrics?

https://genius.com/Stereolab-jenny-ondioline-lyrics

And hey there’s at least some french lyrics in there so I wasn’t completely wrong.

Listening to those lyrics I think those actually make sense…
