just heard her on lard's show on bbc r6.

my god. sorta mindblowing, in a ... i dunno, kate bush meets (non-metal) jesu stylee, for want of a better description. sorry: mind a bit blown. song was called "nitrogen pink" and it seems to be coming out on mute on monday 26th ... she's got a myspace page and seems to have the might of mute and various PRs behind her, but this is the first i've heard of her. and i want to hear more.

anyone know anything else?

guess that'll be a "no", then.

Oh I saw a picture of her in a magazine ad, it was very like "staff photo" in concept.

Guess that doesn't help much but hey.

I felt the same way and did some digging around. Turns out she went to the Brits school (Kate Nash, Katie Melua, that twonk from the Kooks), which is a bit offputting, and I gather that her other stuff doesn't have the epic whoosh of Nitrogen Pink but haven't heard it yet. Staggering single anyway.

yeh, there's a lot to be suspicious of, isn't there? yet that's not entirely fair ... i mean, artists are still entitled to these, umm, "traditional" career paths. i mean, just because i'm turning my back on my own career, that doesn't make careerism a dirty word ... :)

the only other track i've heard is the other one on her myspace page, which i also really liked. glad someone else has heard and liked NP, anyway.

just bought the single. not that any of you philistines will care ;)

some of you -- bimble, i'm thinking -- will fucking LOVE this, you know.

one year passes...

Purely by chance, I heard (and liked, a lot) her new single on Jonathan Ross this morning. She's obviously been ploughing away in the background for a bit but there's an album due in March, apparently, and the single (Other Too Endless: very Yazoo-esque title; think there's some kind of Vince Clarke remix japery afoot, too) is out at the end of next month.

I have to say, I'd pretty much forgotten all about her but this has rekindled my interest somewhat.

So. The album is discomfiting and a little suffocating, and far too much of it sounds like a watery Kate Bush with a new synthesiser.

I absolutely love it.

five years pass...

Is the new album any good?

it's pretty good! wouldn't call it a classic by any means, but solid. (and undercovered, such is the fate of basically everyone in her loosely defined brit pop/brit school wave)

Ha, those are the exact biases that stopped me from checking it out. But I liked her first one, so I'll hunt this one down. Thanks!
