Well, it's already better than "The Real Slim Shady" musically, I'll tell you that much. Dre must have finally stopped smoking the bad weed and gotten some good drugs instead. But it's the flipside for "I'm a Slave 4 U" for me -- in otherwards, great arrangement, but goddamn get that idiot who talks over the whole thing out of the way.
*thinks further* Ah, got it. It's Eminem's attempt to do his own "The Takeover." But Jay-Z still has him beat. ;-)
*awaits Ethan's thorts patiently*

I'm listening to it again now and I have to say that the way in which it's produced makes it sound very original, particularly the sort of climax at the beginning, very very fresh. If it is produced by Dre it makes a change from the ten Mary J Blige/Xzibit/Bad Intentions clones.

Aaah...no. I mean, nothing against the robo-voice at all, but I actually think on that song she sounds like a robot trying too hard to be human. You know, if Data started wearing lingerie and began pouting.

"I know that you got a job Miss Cheney but you're husbands heart problem is complicated".
And I like the part that leads into the first chorus "get ready-cos this is about to get heavy-i just settled all my lawsuits FUCK YOU DEBBIE". Cheeky scamp.

there's a bit in the video where Eminem is dressed as Osama in his cave and him and D12 do the running man

Did any other beat Eminem produced even come close to this one?
― Evan R, Monday, 27 June 2016 18:54 (seven years ago) link
oh i think it's woeful. catchy though. uncomfortably catch.
i remember when it came out thinking "what the hell dr dre" - being under the assumption that he produced the majority of Eminem beats - but he had no involvement in the production, which seems obvious in retrospect

Well of course. He was dead, locked in Eminem's basement.

I remember aged 13 writing all the lyrics to this (paraphrased from memory) in the goodbye card for the coolest girl in school and her absolute disgust on reading it, which in retrospect is obviously the only appropriate response.

^ man it's a good tune but I'll take "Bitch Please II", "Who Knew?", "Soldier", "Rock Bottom", "Brain Damage", "Kill You", "Just Don't Give a Fuck" over this one. was a good single and better than the rest of the way-too-serious album but this ain't even his fifth best single in my eyes.
― Neanderthal, Tuesday, 28 June 2016 02:09 (seven years ago) link
okay, but of singles that aren't even his fifth best single, it's really good

it is a catchy song, and I did enjoy hearing it every day that summer on the radio, tis true. boy, though, did he pick on easy targets....
