there are a few decent songs spread across his pre-Framptn Cums Alive albums, otherwise what a tool.

Yeah, tunefulness and sincerity go a long way. I reserve my extreme hate for smug assholes like Jon Bon Jovi or Steve Van Zandt or whoever. There's some memorable numbers on those early LPs. The most enjoyable ones tend to be the acoustic-based ones.
Presumably everything after the live LP is unnecessary.

The album Frampton -- just before Alive -- was much better than fair. And an album he did about a year ago rocked fairly hard on about half of it. The Frampton's Camel records were his hardest as a solo act but were ignorable. And all the records he did with Humple Pie when it moved to A&M were good to excellent -- that's be the self-titled first for the label, Rock On and Rockin' the Fillmore.

Humble Pie's Town and Country is just about flawless, due in no small part to Frampton's contributions. Problem was, he felt crowded out by Marriott, and then got royally fucked by Dee Anthony when he went solo. I feel too bad for the guy to call dud, but classic is kind of an overstatement.

Fans find Frampton's lost guitar after 30 years
WENN
A beloved guitar Peter Frampton thought he'd lost after a plane crash in the Caribbean 30 years ago has been returned to the rocker.
His prized Gibson Les Paul Custom, which he played on his landmark "Frampton Comes Alive" album was onboard a cargo plane that crashed en route to Panama in 1980.
But following an exhaustive search, two fans stumbled across the instrument on the Dutch island of Curacao, confirmed its authenticity and teamed up with local tourism bosses to get the guitar back to Frampton.
The rocker received it last month in Nashville and says he's stunned to have it back.
He says, "I am still in a state of shock, first off, that the guitar even exists, let alone that it has been returned to me. I know I have my guitar back, but I will never forget the lives that were lost in this crash. I am so thankful for the efforts of those who made this possible. Now that it is back, I am going insure it for $2 million and it's never going out of my sight again! It was always my number one guitar, and it will be reinstated there as soon as possible. Some minor repairs are needed."
Guitar experts at Gibson have confirmed the instrument is the 1954 Les Paul that Frampton feared he'd lost forever.

Randomly heard "All I Want To Be" today and was amazed how much Bon Jovi shamelessly ripped it off for "Dead Or Alive".

His cover of Radiohead’s Reckoner just came to my attention and you all really need to watch this music video:

I'm kind of touched by that, it seems to really want to convey something to the viewer. I'm not sure what Faustian bargain he feels he has reneged on. At first I wasn't sure about his acting, then I remembered he played Billy Shears!

I do know that PF had made a public statement of some health issue that stated he was going to be working to 'wrap up' his music as at some point he probably would not be able to play anymore. I'd have to look up the specifics as they escape me now. I'd have to think that is some of what that video perhaps is alluding towards.
That said, it is a lovely instrumental recording and Peter Frampton really is a fairly unique rock guitarist as he phrases much more like a jazz guitarist in many ways, even back in the Humble Pie days. I know from interviews etc. that his first real guitar heroes were Kenny Burrell and Wes Montgomery.
