List band members in order of toughness

by which I mean, who would win in a fight...somebody on the Ringo thread reckoned Ringo could've kicked Lennon's ass...OK, let's run with that one:

Ringo > John > George > Paul

anybody got any quibbles with that, or should we move on to, say, the Rolling Stones?

henry s, Monday, 14 January 2008 19:01 (sixteen years ago) link

are you kiddning? john is tougher than ringo

Zeno, Monday, 14 January 2008 19:02 (sixteen years ago) link

YOKO IS TOUGHER THAN ALL OF THEM!

Alex in SF, Monday, 14 January 2008 19:03 (sixteen years ago) link

I'd guess after Ringo they were all equally hard assed. I get the impression that John would be the lippy one starting a fight, while the others pile in for the scrap. Best to ask Heather Mills McCartney about Paul.

Billy Dods, Monday, 14 January 2008 19:04 (sixteen years ago) link

Here's the comment henry s was working off of:

It's interesting that he's considered the most harmless/most "lovable" Beatle, considering he grew up in the worst neighborhoods. He probably could have easily taken Lennon's ass in a fight.

True, that's pretty badass. But didn't Danzig knock out Bret Micheals at a Black Flag show in LA? Hmm.

Sounds awfully dubious. Not that Danzig couldn't handle the task, but what would Bret have been doing at a `Flag show?

in the original Alice Cooper group, Mike Bruce would have laid waste to the eternally soused Glen Buxton, but would have had his hands full with the towering "platinum god" Neil Smith...Coop and Dennis Dunaway simply would have out-run the others to safety...

If this was run as a "knockout tournament" (and why wouldn't it), you want to know who would be in the final?

Dieter Meyer of Yello, that's who.

Daltrey KOd Moon a couple of times, too. And I'm pretty sure Townshend did once.

I'd put it as Entwistle>Daltrey>Townshend>Moon. None of them even so much as threatened to hit John. And on the rare occasion where John flipped out, everyone scurried.

The Hon. J. Piedmont Mumblethunder (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 26 July 2016 17:44 (seven years ago) link

Daltrey was kicked out of the band for a few weeks in 1965 for punching Moon and throwing his amphetamines down the toilet. Deciding he didn't want to go back to his old job at the sheet-metal factory, he begged to be let back in, promising to go along with whatever they wanted to do, and that he'd never hit any of the band again (and he didn't, apart from when he knocked Townshend unconscious in 1973 during tour rehearsals for Quadrophenia).

FUIUDalism (Old Lunch), Thursday, 28 July 2016 13:42 (seven years ago) link

Davy was the most likely to start a fight but his size was a disadvantage. Mike was quiet and generally more a lover than a fighter, but if pressed he could be an animal (like the time Micky called Mike's girlfriend a tramp and Mike broke both of Micky's arms with his bare hands).

FUIUDalism (Old Lunch), Thursday, 28 July 2016 13:49 (seven years ago) link

I suspect Davy would be the toughest: grew up on the mean streets of Manchester and was a jockey when he was 14.
