err, damn three pic limit. There was a welcome_to_our_world.jpg in there, too. Anyway, "If Your Girl Only Knew" for me. Shit rocked my little mind. (I guess this poll probably comes down to your first Timbaland moment, but wtvrs.)

The Reverend, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 04:41 (sixteen years ago) link

too tough to decide between "the rain", "pony", "luv 2 luv u", and "can we". 4 fucking classics.

pipecock, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 04:58 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah this is a tough one, it's between "can we" and "4 page letter"... i'll go with the latter

The Brainwasher, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 05:00 (sixteen years ago) link

It's "One in A Million" slightly over "Pony" for me. Hell of a first two years of singles, huh?

"Pony" just barely sliding past "Million" for me. Rev right on, my first Timbo exposure cinches it.

Actually, I'm pretty sure I heard "Pony" before "If Your Girl Only Knew", but, it didn't weird me out like the Aaliyah song did. I have no idea why I accepted it as normal, it's pretty out-there compared to what was out at the time.

Beep Me 911

Where is "1st round win over Kafelnikov"?

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 13:18 (sixteen years ago) link

Voted Beep Me 911, same as in the Missy Poll.

So many classics, but "One In A Million" is still one of the greatest songs ever.

I have very clear memories of 9th grade, when the only time I heard R&B outside of MTV was on the school bus, but the music barely ever cut through the din of all the kids on the bus who would never shut up. And there were just 2 songs that I'd always recognize, and even if I probably couldn't have recalled a word of the lyrics or a note of the melody, that BOWWWW BOWWW BOWW in "Pony" and those crazy hi-hats in "One In A Million" always stood out.

"Beep Me 911" It's tough, though.

Timbo got suprisingly little love from the electronica crowd back then. Probs cuz he makes music girls might actually listen to.

PONY

the beat sounds like it's dying

Ever notice that the verse melodies in "Can We" and "More Than a Woman" are v similar?

Bodrick III, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 20:35 (sixteen years ago) link

It's either "Pony" or "If Your Girl Only Knew". I guess I'll go with "Pony".

I remember first learning that Timbaland was an important producer, only knowing him at the time from Timbaland and Magoo. I liked Magoo better and was really baffled when he just disapeared.

And once again "Beep Me 911" does weirdly well. "Tell Me Do You Wanna" is the best song without a vote.

The Reverend, Monday, 3 March 2008 01:16 (sixteen years ago) link

Can't recall if I voted. But if I did, it was "Up Jumps the Boogie" even though for the longest time I thought Maganoo was Missy (!).

Kevin John Bozelka, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 05:32 (sixteen years ago) link

My second choice was "The Rain".

Doctor Casino, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 14:20 (sixteen years ago) link

it came out in 98

I would have voted for 'Sock It 2 Me' if I'd seen this in time.
