Hee-Haw had the best scene transitions, from an animated donkey braying across the screen to Roy Clark laughing at something on stage right and then looking straight into the camera to go, "Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr. George Jones!"

There is something just so clean, pure and unaware about the Lawrence Welk show, where perfectly coifed white people sing uplifting songs with the lights in their eyes, and you just know that afterward, their only thoughts are of "Boy, we put on a good show!" It's damn near perverse, and plus Lawrence Welk had some awesome crowd shots.

RIP Roy

I don't think Lawrence Welk's big band could deliver anything like that "Take the A Train"

I did not know Hee Haw was the replacement for the cancelled Smothers Brothers Show until I read this article by Roy Clark.

RIP, Roy.

Roy has nicer things to say about Hee Haw than Buck.

Been reading about Roy in the 1950s after he moved from Va to Washington DC. He lived in southeast DC when it was mostly white. He began playing at DC and Md roadhouse bars that existed then. One of them, the Quonset Hut later became a go-go Funk club, but it’s now closed.

SALESGUY: Boy, my dad loved Roy Clark.

SALESLADY: Yeah, most white people did.
