Alice Coltrane's 'Universal Conciousness'

I played this on saturday morning. A great reissue and my first Alice Coltrane record. I esecially liked the string arraangements. I'd definetely throw a copy of this in Richard ashcroft's face. He might learn a thing or two about making 'good' but not corny string arrangements.

Has anybody got this?

One of my absolute favorites. Alice's arrangements were amazing, and her harp barely ever sounded real. It just sounded like it was cascading from the ether. I'd recommend World Galaxy next. It had her best string arrangements, and is fairly easy to get as a Japanese import. It's my favorite of hers. Also Journey in Satchidanda is quite beautiful.

Melissa W- this is a day I thought I'd never see- the day we can finally agree on something! Will get 'journey in satchidanda'.

Whoa, when was this reissued? Man, I checked this out from the radio station once and LOVED it, but I seem to remember it only being available through import for like 35 bucks... I'm glad you like it, Julio - I think you'll enjoy Satchadinanda, too.

My favourite Alice Coltrane is 'Ptah, El The Dauod' (hopefully I spelt that right!).

It has Pharoah Sanders and Joe Henderson (A quite unlikely combination really) playing Tenor Sax and Flutes. Some fine playing however their isn't any string arrangements on the album, except for Alice's fine harp playing (mostly on 'Blue Nile', an amazing song).

The others mentioned are just great as well.

Keep Listening, Geoff

''Julio, incidentally, "Pyramid Song"=best Alice Coltrane ripoff in a pop song EVAH''

The connection from Radiohead to Alice Coltrane has been drawn and I can see it with pyramid song but we must disagree on this track. We're back to square one, I'm afraid.

Clarke- its been reissued recently. I bought here in Canada but it should turn up in the UK soon!
