Heartwork poll

One of my very favourite metal albums. Not a weak moment on it, and such a crushing sound combined with a keen (if often somewhat buried) sense of melody and structure. Interesting to see if there's any kind of consensus, or more than a handful of votes.

I haven't decided what I'll vote for - I think it's between Buried Dreams, Embodiment and Death Certificate.

Title track. I saw this tour. They were dicks, but they shredded.

Immortal's "At the Heart of Winter" k thx.
Never was a big fan of Heartwork, but I've always had trouble with this cleaned up version of death metal (Hypocrisy etc), mostly because their melodic sensibilities don't at all click with mine. Also, I guess I want more controlled chaos in my metal.

Err, will dig this up and give it a listen next week, since I don't really remember most of these songs anymore.

Øystein, Friday, 13 March 2009 10:31 (fifteen years ago) link

I decided on Death Certificate.

chap, Friday, 13 March 2009 12:04 (fifteen years ago) link

This reminded me of Carcass' great remix of "Isobel" by Bjork.

my gut reaction was 'death certificate'.

is there a thread somewhere on ilx whose premise is 'imagine that THIS is a sellout record'?

Doctrinal Expletives is a very underrated track. Some of the heaviest passages on the record.

Then it bursts into this weird, almost jaunty guitar melody.

Carnal Forge fuckin rules.

one of the riffs sounds like "I'll Be Watching You" by the Police

Steer's savage vocals wouldn't have fit real well with this material

This is all of Heartwork to be fair.
