"...how does it feel? To look in the mirror and realize that you're a fuckin ho?"
"Fuck fuck around you get a left and a right FIST"
and an interview about mp3s where he predicts that mp3 car stereos will be that final straw that makes the format "blow up" - "i can put 3600 hours in my car stereo right now... that's like 3 weeks. CDs are tricky too, man. i had a CD go blank on me one time."
Does hip-hop have a sell-by date? I find myself listening to hip-hop albums intensely for awhile and then kind of ditching them.

Ice-T's sexism is committed and 100%. The man attends pimp conventions. His little boy calls him "pimp daddy". I guess that's sexist. Where I come from it is at least.
Geordie - what happened on Oprah?
it only goes up to the part where Jello tries to quote Tipper, but She says it is a false quote

words of wisdom i got from an ice-t video interview when i was a teen: i paraphrase but it was something like, at one time he used a lot of variations of expressions like "fucking u up" then he came across a bad dude who did lots of prison and, as some sort of tough guy bravado decided to take him literally and offered to be fucked by him , not in a gay way (right) but in a "i don't give a fuck" tough guy way... so the lesson of that story , ice-t mused, was that no matter how tough you think you are, there is always someone out there a bit tougher than you. i thought it made sense, laws of probability making it so that if you keep acting like an asshole things are bound to end up badly 4 u. thanks ice!

am interviewing the guy next week…he was my favorite rapper from like 88-92, drove around listening to Power, FoS…JWWYS and OG shitloads…will have more shit to mention as I'm re-listening to those records and Body Count (laughed so hard at HE WANTS TO BORROW SOME MONEY FROM ME!!!!!!! in "the Winner Loses") for the first time since early 90s…I have to say that the new Body Count album has some shit that's funny as fuck…
in the meantime, would anyone like to recommend anything he did from "Home Invasion" on? It seems like, even though he had a perfectly respectable run, the Cop Killer capitulation was the end of him making songs anyone cared about. or was there a late career salvo I missed? Other than being on TV shows I never watched, the thing he did most recently that caught my eye was a few years ago yelling at Souljah Boy for not being a lyrical craftsman, real hip-hop is dead, cloud-shouting, etc etc

Not much chat about The Iceberg on here? I played this as Much as Power when I was a teenager driving round town. I used to know Peel The Caps Back by heart.

Mind telling me how you landed an interview? I requested one via Body Count's label (and I agree, the new album has some surprisingly great stuff) and was told he was totally unavailable...

The more I listen to the new Body Count the more I think it's their best one. They cover Suicidal Tendencies' "Institutionalized" and it comes off like a metal version of "Funk Dat"; Jamey Jasta of Hatebreed is on one track; there's a salute-the-veterans track (you knew Ice-T was an Army Ranger, right?) where the portrayal of boot camp is like a mirror image of the portrayal of prison in "The Tower" and Ernie C plays the riff from Hendrix's "Machine Gun"; they do a metal version of "99 Problems"...it's really good.

I'd take body count, iceberg, maybe even Power over OG. Not sure why its the go-to really.
― da croupier, Tuesday, 3 June 2014 03:20 (nine years ago) link
I agree - remember being disappointed when this came out. Felt like it had less life than the previous two. I wonder if the people who like OG best came to this one first - as i said upthread i had already given my heart to Iceberg and Power by the time this came out. Maybe I will trck this down and listen again - it is possible my ears were mistaken.

body count over OG???
The Iceberg is my fav.
nerd questions:
always been more curious about his NYC roots, also his DJ Afrika Islam was associated w/Zulu Nation....his appearance in Breakin', etc...I think that whole early period is pretty interesting...
wondering if he know Mixmaster Spade who was credited with mentored a lot of young west coast guys
Does he keep in touch with Everlast? Just funny that Ice-T was the one who put him on originally with the Rhyme Syndicate Comin' Through album and the original Everlast album
Divine Styler is such an eccentric dude, wonder how they met and if he was already starting to get on his weird existential hippy rap thing when he was in Rhyme Syndicate?
What was his relationship with NWA/Eazy like...seemed like they came and took what he had popularized and took it the next level, never much public beef but what was the dynamics like?
